89 Jeep Cherokee Driver window Question - Adendum?

Its a manual crank window. And I will never go to a shop again. Those guys are sharks. I can probably get the replacement part and make the repair as you suggested. However, how do I get the panel off to GET to the broken part? Thanks, JB

  1. If you look int the door handle you should see i believe 1 screw, Then where the power lock switch is some more screws.. Then their are 2 phillips head screws that hold the door pull.. After you have all those out, You need a door panel removal tool, Or just a flathead screwdriver and pop the white plastic things out.. They are on the edge of the door panel all the way around.. Hope this makes since

  2. a couple of well hidden screws and a panel pulling tool. you should be able to remove the handle with a phillips or a torx screwdriver

I don't think it has a clip on it

the panel emover is a screwdriver tool bought at autozone

slide it between the panel and the door feel for platic clips that hold the panel not hard just time consuming

  3. After removing the inner window crank handle, the inner door release handle and arm rest, most panels are held in by hidden retainer clips. To access, you use a U or Y shaped tool along the outer vertical edges of the panel. The tool slides behind the head of the clip and slowly ease each clip out. There may be 8 to 10 clips for each door panel. With the clips released, ease the panel upward to release from the belt area of the door.

  4. You will need a #3 Phillips screwdriver to pull off the door arm rest. A #2 will work in a pinch. Once the 2 screws are removed, rotate the arm rest upward in an arc to about the 12 o'clock position and the upper retainer, once clocked, will allow the arm rest to be pulled free.

Pull the 3 screws from the door handle panel and reach behind the panel, using a small slotted screwdriver and disconnect the door lock and door handle actuating bars. One will be on the top, the other on the bottom. They each have a small retainer that holds them in the hole. Pop this off and then gently pry the bars out of their holes.

Now it's time to remove the window crank. I recall most of these being a simple pull off/push on assembly. Some may have a small retaining clip under the handle to retain it in a groove on the regulator shaft. You should still be able to pull it straight off.

Once removed, verify there are not aftermarket speakers screwed into the door panel, if so, it might make sense to remove them before taking off the door panel.

Some models may have a separate piece of trim along the top of the door panel at the window. If so, slide it backward after pulling the bottom up. There should be 2, possibly 3, clips holding the bottom and the top is in a groove along the top of the door.

Once this is removed, if needed, gently lift the panel at a corner and gently pull each retainer from the door as you work your way around. You'll likely need a screwdriver to get started but then it can be done by hand.

    Replacement is the reverse.
