How do I break a pool filter?

My neighbor has this million year old pool filter that is so LOUD that I can hear it with all the windows closed, music on, etc... I have people that come over that complain about the filter. They keep it on all the time, even when it rains for days and they're using it. I need a way to break it! Would a bb gun work? I wanted to cut the cord but hubby said that would be just a replacement part. What else can I do to make sure it would need to be replaced? I'm not normally this evil but I need some peace and quiet. There is no noise pollution ordinance by me either, so I'm on my own.

  1. -Call The Police.

-Human Rights, there must be some noise law.

-Talk With Ur Neighbors about ur hard time.

-I Don“t Think a Bb Gun Drestoy Them At All But If U R Looking For Troubles? Skip The First 3

  2. use a wrist rocket with a ball bearing that should crack it

  3. Well mommie- have you talked to your neighbors about it? If not or if they are defensible about it, I say you call the police. I have never heard of a town or area that doesn't have a noise ordinance. After trying those things I say cut the power cord.

  4. Just ask your neighbor if it's possible to get a timer on the pool filter. Tell them with that they'll save energy on their electric bill. Have them set the timer to kill the filter usage when the pool isn't being used or when late at night. If they refuse to get one then, go to city counsel and demand that they look into noise restriction during curtain hours. It's better to ask them, than take care of it yourself

  5. A few rocks, 1" or so placed under the skimmer basket will ruin the pump. It will make quite a bit of noise for a few moments, so be prepared to run. Another option would be a properly placed blow with a sledge hammer. Again quite a bit of noise, be prepared to run. Of course with either of these options, if you get caught you will likely be fined (possibly jailed for a bit?). Also, it is fairly safe to say you would be ordered to replace the pump.

If you are in a rural area, you may not be covered by a noise ordinance. Noise issues are covered in the model codes used in most areas, so I would find it hard to believe that there isn't something to help you if you are in a village or city.

Even if you are not covered by a noise ordinance of some sort, most states have a right of "peaceful enjoyment" in their constitution or property laws. This situation would clearly violate your right to peaceful enjoyment, so you could bring a civil suit to correct the situation. You would have to pay a lawyer.

A good first step would be to have a talk with the neighbor, if you have not already done so. If they are not willing to correct the situation, I would offer to buy them a new pump. Sounds weird at first, but if you vandalize the pump they have now you will probably have to buy a new one anyway. You would just be skipping the court appearance and ill will. If you try a civil suit, you will spend more for an attorney than the cost of a new pump.

  6. It isn't the filter that makes noise its the pump. Making the pump quieter isn't difficult nor expensive. Find out what the pump is mounted on. For mine I used a cement pad and a thick lead sheet under the motor. Don't bolt the motor nor have any solidly connected pipe (form the pump) bolted to walls.

If you offered to do this for the neighbour it would impress him and you would have gained a cooperative and appreciative friend. The expense should be minimal, the peace...priceless. This would be a much better, faster and easier approach to fixing this problem
