Can a power window motor be operated manually?
I think the motor is shot. I can't get the glass to move either up or down. After removing the inside panel I can see there is nothing blocking the track. At the moment I just want to get the glass up untill I can get a replacement part. It is a 02 Nissan Sentra. Thank You for your help

- you may be able to loosen the motor then pull the window up by hand ,then tighten the motor to hold it in place, some motors are riveted in,cut off the rivets then bolt the motor back in
- you could get the window to move by hand but it takes too much force, enough to brake the glass, its that way so people dont steal yor car by pusing down on window. remove panel from door, lose the window, push it up,then tigh the bolts again...and buy a motor
- It depends on if the motor is locked up. If it isn't, you should be able to use a pair of Vise-Grips or a wrench on the shaft of the motor to get the window up. If it's locked, your only recourse is to disconnect the linkage and try to free up the motor enough to turn it. Prop the window track up with something before removing the linkage or the window could come crashing down!
- there should be a couple of bolts that hold the window to the window regulator (track) pull those out and you can lift the window. you will have to secure it with something, i took a couple pieces of thinner metal and bent them to hang over the side of the door and clip on the bottom of the window. duct tape also works. you could also try to put power and ground to the motor directly, to be sure it's not the switch or wiring that is bad.
- i own a repair shop, and no it cant be operated manually but you might be able to pull upwards on the glass while trying the up position with the switch, and get the window up that way,i have done this before, but you,ll have to remember and not hit the down button again, because most of the time they will go down but not up,good luck i hope this help,s.
- NO. But here's a trick that might work to get the glass up and possibly fix it for awhile.
With the key turned on and someone continually pressing the UP button for the stuck window (preferrably using the buttons at the drivers side if they exist or just pressing the UP on the door that has the stuck window) FORCEFULLY slam the door shut. Don't slam it so hard that you break the glass, but give it a very strong closing. Try to keep pushing (or puling) the door as it closes, so when it hits the door jam it has a good thud.
DON"T HOLD THE UP BUTTON TOO LONG, JUST LONG ENOUGH TO CLOSE THE DOOR. ALSO MAKE SURE NO FINGERS OR THIINGS ARE HOLDING ONTO THE DOOR JAM AS THE DOR IS SLAMMED SHUT!
This has work for me many times over the years.
Good luck.
- One thing you might try since you have the door panel off is to take a small hammer and lightly tap the motor. Sometimes this will help reestablish brush contact inside the motor and allow it to work long enough to get it up. This back yard procedure some times also works with other types of motors such as heaters and wipers. If this does'nt worf then your best bet would be to try and disconnect the window glass from the window regulator if possible.
