where can I buy wooden replacement windows that are stained (replica stained) glass?

I've looked every where & I can't find anything. I really want them, being that I must buy new windows of some sort. I just bought a Victorian that is somewhat half gutted but the project has been abandoned. The person took the bottom part of every window in the house!!

  1. If the lower sash were stained glass and were removed, then they were sold at a salvage yard. Take your window measurements and photos of each window and start there, at the nearest one. It may be that the lower sash were clear glass, and that is what you should replace them with...at least until you can learn how to do stained glass and make your own! (Ask the neighbors) If you need to make the replacement sash, you will not have any luck at the HD or commercial window mfgr.s. If you are in Texas, I can give you my guys name and contact info. I searched for 30 yrs. to find him. I've had commercial com.'s make look alikes, but they were dysfunctional, as the idiots had no clue how the old sash windows worked. There is a bevel to the bottom sash to match the degree of pitch of the window sill to facilitate the rain runoff. (order the windows 1" longer than you think if you don't know the pitch, and have the carpenter do it on install.) It also bevels at the top (meeting rail) to close the gap created by the window stop and fit snugly against the top sash. Pick out your hardware carefully to match the missing latch and window pulls. I have catlogs, but the big companies are way too expensive. There are smaller co.'s tht hve the same thing for 1/2 the money. I have someone local who warehouses and can find for you.

    What else is unfinished?

Is there any way you can find the previous owner? If you don't know his name, go to the courthouse and look it up as the previous owner. Search in the phone book until you find someone who can locate him. He may have them in a garage or barn, and will return them, maybe for free. Whatever he charges, you can bargain him down or threaten to call the cops, although you are on thin ice there. At any rate, it will be way easier and cheaper than remaking new ones.
