We bought a 50 year old ranch home that has the old up and down slide windows; need new ones but where?

These windows resemble the windows on the older storm doors that go up and down and click into the slots. Ours are leaking and all the felt has worn away leaving big gaps where all the rain and snow comes into the sun porch. We do not know if you can purchase these type of windows any more and really cannot afford to redo the porch with new windows and frames. Plus; the windows are not all the same size and there are 16 of them. Does any one have any idea where we may be able to purchase replacement windows?

  1. A window company should be able to custom make them for you. They might not be the same kind, but they can make them to fit.

  2. Depends where you live. I suggest you go to a home Depot and let them come out and show you their portfolio of replacement Windows

  3. Shop around. I too have many of the same type of windows in my old house. I replaced some with new vinyl windows that are double paned insulated glass. You can get windoes that fit right into the old op[ening so you don't have to tear anything out. Just remove the guides on the old ones and slide the new ones into the same spot. Very easy to do.

  4. We had the same type of windows in our home from the 70's and we had 3 diffrent sizes, we found vinal replacement windows in the exact sizes we needed. You can even order them with all the fancy options like double paned, insulated, fold in for cleaning and have the inserts to make them look like the colonial windows. Just depends on what you want to spend. call around in your area.. somethimes Lowes and Home depot are not the best options.

  5. Is there a Sam's Club near you? They do windows.
