is there tax credits for home window replacement?

The windows in our home (8 years old) are rotting and are very drafty in the winter. Our heating bills last winter averaged $1,400 month. Do you know if there is grant money or tax credits for replacing home windows to save on energy costs?

  1. i don't know about grant money however the irs does allow u to claim "home improvements" of certain kinds on your taxes-check the website for the specifics-the windows must meet certain qualifications in order to deduct the expense

  2. The government passed an Energy credit bill I believe in the summer of 2005. In the bill, it went into detail about fuel credits for cars and also credits for energy efficient improvements to your home.

Look at this link : http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=products.pr_tax_credits#chart

You may be eligible for a credit on your replacement windows if they fall within certain parameters.
