What is usual lifespan of double pane windows?

A couple of windows are now gathering condensation after 22 years. They're up high, so the labor cost in replacement involved will be high, since installation is a 3-person job. Would it be wise to replace them all at this time or is there any realistic chance that they might keep working for some time to come? Thanks!

  1. NOW DAYS 20 TO 25 YEARS

  2. Some will last 40+ years and others will fail after 10 years. There are a lot of things that can cause windows to fail. Just because one window has failed does not necessarily mean the others will soon.

I have some floor to ceiling windows that were installed in 1981. Two of the three have failed, the two that failed were installed very tight in the opening. The other one has a 1/4" gap on the top and sides.

I would just replace the bad window. It could be another 20 before the others start to fail or it could be 1 year.

However if the new window will be Low-E glass in a vinyl frame you might just want to replace them all so they match.
