1. In a nutshell, they will perform and look better than your current windows but are a lot cheaper than tearing out and completely replacing your current units with brand new units (a lot more work involved).

   With replacement windows, you just remove the sashes and stop, and install the replacement units. New windows consist of tearing out the old windows, frame and all, and starting from scratch, which usually includes exterior siding and interior wall finishing.

   New windows are the way to go, but if you're on a budget, replacements will work.

In addition, vinyl frames need little or no maintenance (that means paint too!), last practically forever and come in a variety of shapes and sizes if you choose to go all out with replacement. Double panes help insulate your home (heat, cold and noise) and are code in most places now.
