want to install a double hung replacement
Our new house was built in 1985 by quality builders and everything is exactly level. We can pull the nails out and slide the window out of the casing and slide the new one right back in with no problems or work.
If your house is level a window will take less than 30 minutes
I install windows for a living and on a good day it will take at least an hr or more to properly remove old window ...prepare opening (insulate and caulk)....and install new window....
If you have a basic knowledge of carpentry and the right tools ...you can do it
And yes they can be installed very quickly, again given the right circumstances.
I`ve done a window in less than 20 minutes. I`ve also had replacements that have taken hours (one opening).
What it all comes down to is how well your job was measured and what`s coming out of the hole. Mostly the latter.
I`ve been doing this for a while and I`m still coming across installation techniques that are new to me. But you learn to improvise and adapt. Demolition techniques rarely work from one job to the next. But if I`ve learned one important lesson: Window installations are like "LIFE"!!!! Ya gotta keep an open mind!!!!
Also, speed is`nt as important as quality!!
