replacement windows?

I am looking to purchase 7 replacement windows before winter. What brands are good? I want something that will be very energery efficent, any suggestions as to what I should look for? Idea on cost per window? All 7 are the same size. Where should I shop, lowes, homedepot, elsewhere/

  1. We were going to do a few windows at a time - as finances allowed - yikes! Whole-house window installation (15 + decorative, tempered glass on either side of the door) was definitely the way to go. Big windows, little windows, patio doors... the window guys said, "It all averages out." But, ask EVERYONE about their experiences - friends, neighbors, even homeowners you've never met (it's easy to spot new windows). Call several window installation companies in your area; check their references/testimonials/BBB, etc. Then, make appointments with a few of them. The meetings are fairly time-consuming, but I found each one informative for different reasons. We were up-front to each contractor about inviting competition. (One guy bailed at that point.) The others made their measurements and presented options for styles, prices, and manufacturers. Having price quotes and specific descriptions from each company made it fairly easy to compare. Basically, we let them "battle it out" to see who came up with the best deal. Healthy competition works wonders. In your DIY price comparison, remember to factor in the cost of tempered glass windows, if they are necessary (required for safety in certain areas/applications); they are considerably more expensive than regular windows.

  2. i bought my new windows at home depot and my light bill went from 575.00 to less than 300.00 in a matter of weeks

and i paid 99.00- 150.00 depending on size and they are double paned .....................2675.00 for 15 windows and they were put in by us ..............i am very happy with them

  3. I would shy away from the home center windows since they are generally of a lower quality. Their lifetime warranties are tempting but they change brands every few years and in some cases put companies out of business.

If you are concerned about energy efficient windows then I would suggest looking into triple pane windows with foam filled frames. You should be able to get triple panes with U-factors of .20 or lower (the lower the better), most double pane windows are between .30 and .35.

Generally good triple pane windows can only be ordered through replacement window companies.
