How do I get into my mac if I have lost the password?

My friend (honestly!) has precisely this problem and if it cannot be solved, which seems increasingly likely, where can a replacement Operating System be found? Similarly, I am looking for a Windows XP Pro cd. Any clues?

1. its bee na while since I had a MAC .. but have you tried reloading the OS .. .if i remember it has an option to install without deleting software/data.

   or try this it will remove your key chain passwords though

   Hold Apple+S when booting to enter single user mode

   #sh /etc/rc

   #passwd yourusername

   #reboot
