Adding a window - replacement vs new?
We're adding a window in a master bedroom (remodel) Our contractor recommended going with a replacement window versus new. Is this since they just cut through our existing cedar siding, and install it in on the inside of the window versus the exterior and re-side over it. Although then wouldnt they have to build the jam inside the walls? Have a call out to the contractor, but curious for some advice on here.

- you will save money by simply repalcing it. It is a lot less work.
He's being nice to you. He could make more money by telling you to put in the new window. It's not a matter of which is better, it's a matter of the size you want and how much you want to spend.
- a replacement window will be cheaper and work just as well
- personally I would go with a new window if you are going to all that trouble. it will last longer and easier to decorate to your liking.
- With a replacement window, the frame of the window remains intact. They remove the sashes, which are the actual pieces with the glass in them. They then have a vinyl insert that fights tightly in the existing frame. It's much easier to do, and they don't need to remove the trim inside or the siding. Hope this helps.
