Is adding a tint to replacement windows effective?

We are considering replacing the windows in the house. We will be getting very low e factor windows. The manufacturer also offers a blue tint as an option, about 40% more on the cost. What purpose would it serve as the low e is supposed to significantly improve heating and cooling? Does it give more privacy?

  1. Uhm... think of it this way. Are shades cheaper? Because a tinted window is tinted forever, no matter how much you hate it later on. Shades, blinds, drapes, you can change, and do better to keep out unwanted light during the summer. And ofcourse, a clear window will help more during the winter than tinted.

And don't worry about any UV stuff, glass stops most UV rays.

  2. We put in new windows. I did not think the blue tint was worth the money. It helps cut down sunn light so it doesn't fade or dis-color furniture....not worth the money in my eyes.
