I am looking at putting new windows in my house. had a sales guy come from Sash and Storms from Lima, Ohio to give me a quote. He says Bristol Windows are the best I am just wondering what other people have to say about this. Thanks.
Opinions are like doughnut holes, everyone has one. On-the-other-hand NUMBERS don't lie.
A good friend of mine who happens to be a CPA and a former mentor of mine taught me several years ago that numbers don't lie. When you couple this fact with independent certification numbers assigned by testing laboratories to the different windows, you have a clear-cut method of scientifically chosing top-quality windows.
The Pella, Anderson, Marvin and other brands are great companies and the last time I checked they all carried independent certification from the National Fennestration Rating Council (NFRC) with respect to the R-values of the windows and specifically the glazed or glass portion of the window. I am not knowledgeble of Bristol/Winchester Industries. I suggest that you obtain the NUMBERS as referred to in the NFRC for comparison to same type/model of windows in which you are interested -- for EACH manufacturer. If you are interested in triple glaze windows with gas charge, then you must compare like with like. Triple glazing should cut the field down rather fast.
Go to http://www.nfrc.org/
for an overview, then check the numbers
There are several selections for source information if you plug-in "National Fenestration Rating Council" in your search engine.
