I am looking at replacement windows, do you suggest Pella Andersen or Jeld-Wen?

Public Comments

  1. Pella are extremely easy to install, but are most expensive.

Jeld-Wen are also easy, 2nd most expensive

Anderson are easy to install and the least expensive of the three. If you live in termite country make sure that the wood has been treated or go with an aluminum frame.

I had Pella's in my kitchen (that were not treated ) and the termites ate them up.... 5 windows at 890.00 a pop....

  2. they're all good companies. I would check with consumer reports.

  3. The house I live in has all Pella windows from previous owner and that one thing alone helped to up my appraisal for a refi. I had a custom home built a while back and they used Anderson and we had nothing but problems with them, from week one.

  4. I would never recommend Pella windows. To tilt their double hung windows to clean the glass you have to remove the screens. The worst designed windows I have ever seen. Andersen's 200 series is a good window, the 400 series is a little better. I'm not sure if it is better by enough to justify the price. I have never worked on a house with with Jeld-wen windows so I can't say anything about them.

  5. In the past two weeks I have installed both Pella and Marvin windows on three different homes. I must admit, I like the look of the Pella and the ease of instalation.

The Marvins we used were bombproof. They use a cool metal tounge that you secure on the inside of the rough opening, and these units came with the brickmold on

Pella has lots of instalation guidelines, omitting or altering them can void the warranty.

They are both great, cost was not too much different. Custom and odd orders in our style would have made the Marvins more expensive, but there are a ton of variables.

When I replace the windows on MY home, I'll be going with Pella. I happen to like the integral blinds and found removing the componants not too bad, but I'm not a painter and don't have to repeatedly do this.

find one that you like the looks of. Find a certified installer/contractor and make sure they do a good job.
