Reattaching driver side power mirror on 99 Subaru Legacy Wagon?

I popped off my driver side review mirror on my Subaru Legacy Wagon. The power mirror is still functional. Rather than paying for a whole new kit to be installed, I'm wondering if there is a way to reglue the existing mirror. Maybe take to an autobody place, or window replacement place that uses really strong adhesives? The mirrow is intact and the power is still functioning, its just dangling from the power cord. So I think its just a question of reglueing or replacing the whole kit. And if reglueing, what kind of adhesive? I'm assuming I can reglue now and replace later when I have the $$$.

  1. go to basically any auto parts store and tell them you need an adhesive to do this job.

  2. Gluing it back on will not work. Seen it done about a million times, seen it work zero times. Replacement power mirrors for many vehicles can often be found for $30-50 so its not like you have to take out a second mortgage to fix this right.

  3. not enough description to really give you a great answer. I'll assume the glass fell out of the plastic housing. If so, go to a parts store and buy a 2 sided foam tape. 3M makes the best ones in my opinion. ask for one of these. You could also try a 3M spray on adhesive like 77 or 80. both are also available at an auto parts store.

if the plastic fell off the motor pack, chances are the tabs holding it on broke. you'll be pretty much done in that case. buy new mirror from dealer.

if the entire housing fell off car, then buy new housing.
