Is it cheaper to install a replacement window on a home or remove a window and close up the space?

We want to reduce the noise we hear from outside on one side of our house and would not miss the window if removing it entirely is the best/cheapest option.

  1. Removing it. We had gobs of windows in this old house before air conditioning and the breeze through the house in the summer felt good. then we got air conditioner. Took out half the windows and replaced the spot with the siding to match the house and filled in the hole with fiberglass insulation and Sheetrock and repainted. The other windows we replaced with duel pane and our cooling bill went down considerably.

  2. It is cheaper to replace the window with a double pane type that should also cut down on the noise and heat loss.

Of course, you can just nail a piece of plywood over the hole but it will look like hell and not work very good.

  3. its a lot easier replacing a window than i thought it would be. they come right out. makes you feel so safe -- lol. laying brick is not as easy. you might want to take that into consideration too.

  4. IT IS CHEAPER TO INSTALL THE WINDOW, RATHER THAN HAVING TO REMOVE IT ENTIRELY BEING THAT IT WILL BE MORE WORK TO CLOSE THAT SPACE UP COMPLETELY.

INSTALLING A WINDOW DOESN'T COST MUCH.

KEEP IN MIND THE PRICE OF MATERIALS, PLUS WORK IF YOU WANT TO REMOVE THE WINDOW.

    HOPE THIS HELPED!
