Have you recently purchased replacement windows for your house?

Looking for anyone who's had replacement windows installed in the last 2-3 years or so. It's not the cost I'm concerned with, though I'd love to hear your comments. I'm more interested in what you had and what you chose as the replacement, what kinds of things you considered while shopping, and now that you have your new windows, do you have any "I wish..." items - things you'd do differently? Thanks!

1. We purchased a new sliding door: double paned: a lot of places will try to sell you triple paned but those are only useful in places that are really hot like the dessert. We love our door and because of price- we are replacing each window as we can- you can really feel a major difference!! We love it- it's easy to clean, looks absolutely fabulous and they installed it beautifully and professionally. We went with Anlin. Best time to purchase is actually in the seasons when it is not extremely hot or cold. However they will give good deals in those seasons as well. Good Luck!!!


2. Replaced last window with Lexine (miss spelled) live in country and windows were always getting broke so decided to try Lexine. So far had good luck with it. Will be replacing rest as they get broke.


3. Guess I was lucky, I have a friend that is a building contractor. I phoned him, and the conversation went something like this. Rob, I think I want new windows in my house, when are you going to have the time to install them? He started asking questions, I cut him off, that is your problem I ask when.

   In a few days a crew showed up and installed them. The only problem, weather permitting I like fresh air at breakfast. Raising the window is no problem, but when I lower it, the top sash likes to come down about a half inch. This makes in necessary to push on the top one up and pull down on the bottom one.

   They fit too tight, but I am sure I would complain a lot more if there was cold air coming in.

   They are a lot easier to wash. Not that I do them very often.



4. yes, just in the last year, we replaced with windows usa. they are custom made for each opening, double lock, tilt to clean, and Quick, clean and again lifetime warranty.


5. I replaced mine last year, and being a contractor and working in the luxury home market ,I chose Eagle window, I had Timeline previously,I looked for sindows that the thickest glass,the highest argon rating between the glass,the one that had the hardest wood for the sashes and the best cladding on the exterior side,also check the mechanics of the door to see how smoothly they open and close,also check how tight the window fits against the stop on the jamb when it is closed, Eagle windows can be hard to find so of the national brands I would suggest Hurd or Andersen.


6. we had all of our downstairs windows replaced and the other day the bank called wanting some money...i told them the salesman said these windows would pay for themselves in just a few years...
