In general which costs more new windows or replacement ones?

I will be replacing siding outside so will have exposure to framing. Would it be more cost effective to replace with new construction or with vinyl replacement?

  1. Go with new windows, you will get a better seal around the frame of the windows, cost can be less if standard sizes will fit.

Hope you like your new windows.

  2. as long as your frames are in good condition replacement

Windows will be less expensive used them myself . easy to install.

  3. Vinyl replacement windows sometimes reduce the view out the window. By installing new windows, the area of the glass is not lost and may even give you more glass.

I would go with new vinyl windows as they are maintenance free. The old frames of replacement windows will have to be maintained, (painted), and the whole idea of vinyl siding is to make the home maintenance free.

  4. Aren't they the same? If your replacing old windows with new, whats is the difference between NEW Windows or NEW replacement windows? Replacement windows are made to fit your existing openings. It seems to me that is a cheaper way to go unless you want a contractor to make new window openings.

  5. The information i am getting from a friend who has been in the RealEstate business for years is that people are really devaluing those homes with the new plastic replacement windows that in a short time show age and are really cheap looking to start with.

So for replacements for not that much money more, and especially if you are doing the work yourself, Anderson windows sells made to size wood replacement with Vinyl clad outside that are warranteed for 30 years.

The stained inside gives you a high quality look that improves, not devalues your important home investment.
