What IS it with replacement window companies???

Everyone wants to send someone to my house to "measure" before they give me any sort of price. I need only three windows - all the same size - and have the approximate measurements. Why won't someone simply give me an "approximate" cost over the phone without the need to make the infamous in-home appointment (taking up MY valuable off-work time!) so they can then try to sell me the more expensive model? I just want to compare a few manufacturer's mid-range model prices! Gr-r-r-r-r!!

2. selling windows in home is a one call close,they need you there to sign a contract. TRUST ME I KNOW


3. the only good reason for them to send someone to measure is if they are big windows. The price of a window changes big time if the length + width is more than 100 inches.


4. Seriously, it's nothing personal....a lot of people assume they can measure windows, and fail miserably. I don't mean that you can't, I'm sure you can. So what happens if they quote the price based on the measurements given, sign a contract and then go out and come to find out they're not the size the customer "thought". When it comes to your home, I would think that being as thorough as possible would be a positive thing, not a waste. Installing windows is more than just popping it in...are any of the windows on the second story, bushes blocking it, structural obstructions all come into play when quoting on home improvement.

   I understand that it can be cumbersome, but realize that if you really want to improve your home, that the extra time you take for it will be worth it!

5. the truth is, they send a salesman, who has the hob of selling you more than you want to buy... cause of course he has a deal....if you buy this and buy that


6. the reason is they want to see what other problems they might run into so they can give you the most accurate price they can for instance if the window frame is roted that the new window is going to sit in that would be more work
