how to find a windows XP license key?

i got a computer from a friend who got the computer from someone he knew. the person asked him to clean the hard drive so he reformatted it and it was completely empty. He gave me the computer and a windows XP disc that the lady who gave him the computer also gave him. after installing windows, it asks for the license key but when i enter the key on the sticker on the computer, it does not work. how can i get a replacement key or find out what my key is? the case the CD is in says its windows Genuine Advantage Kit for Windows XP Professional then in fine print it says available only from microsoft soo is it OEM or microsoft? nowhere on it does it say HP or pavillion or anything related to that.

2. If they gave you the OEM Disc then call Microsoft at (800) 642-7676: if however the Disc you have comes from the computers manufacture then call their Costumer Support Number.
