how to measure window opening for a replacement?
Public Comments
- Inside of the frame. The maximum size of the glass.
- You will need to get the finished opening dimension. This means from the exterior, measure the outside face of the window frame. top to bottom and edge to edge. If you are going to hire someone to install the windows, have them do the measurements for you. you can always shim the opening if they are a little small, what you don't want is to order them too big.
- As usual not enough information. Ask the architect if he spent his 15 yrs installing or drawing. You need to know a number of different things before you even begin to measure, i.e. what`s the building construction. Are the new windows your purchasing going to span the thickness of the windows being removed? Can the new windows be purchased in custom sizes if needed? Are you replacing all the windows or just a few? Depending on local codes you may or may not need a permit. Me personally, I`d get in contact with a professional. Many is the time I`ve had to tell a customer his windows are the wrong size when they measured themselves.
