Fixing a Window Screen?

We have a small window in our kitchen and the bottom screen just broke (as in, one of the clips just snapped so the screen keeps falling against the window). We measured the screen to be about 16" x 32". Could we get a replacement screen at, say, home depot? or do we need to find a custom window repair shop?

  1. Well if you want a new screen, chances are you will need to find a repair shop. I don't know of anywhere that just sells screens around that size. A lot of hardware stores do screen repair so I would start there. But a much cheaper alternative would be to repair it yourself. I don't know exactly what type of clips you have on your window, since there's tons of different types of clips on different windows. But more than likely you can pick up a new part at the your local hardware store. Be sure to bring the old clip with you if you can find it or the whole screen since it isn't too big, so that you can match up your clip with the ones that they have. Good Luck

  2. You can check the hardware stores for either parts or replacement screens. Also, check the Yellow Pages, etc., in you city fo companies that sell solar screens. They can manufacture one quite quickly and easily.

  3. You can find all the parts to build a whole new screen at hardware stores or Big Box stores. They sell the frame material, corners, screen and spline.

  4. Use the yellow pages and look for hardware stores. NOT hOME DEPOT OR LOWE'S. Call until you find one that makes screens.

Take the old one with you so they can get TRUE measurement and type of pin. If you give them measurements that are incorrect, you'll have to pay.
