Are replacement windows installed in 2008 eligible for energy saving tax credits?

I replaced all the windows in my home in early 2008. Are these improvements eligible for a tax credit? And if so, what documents do I need to provide with my tax return, if any?

  1. I would think yes and your prove would be the paid receipts for the windows

  2. They used to be eligible - but for 2008 exterior doors/windows no longer qualify.

  3. I believe that credit ended in 2007. You can find out at the IRS website.

  4. Sorry it was fazed out.

  5. Congress screwed up and did not renew the credit for 2008, it is back for 2009. The home improvement energy credit did not exist last year. Sorry.

  6. You can call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 they might be able to help.

For the future you can try Uncle Tax: http://www.UncleTax.com you will be able to file all you late and current tax returns here and they will answer all questions you have. I use this online service to do my taxes and I can always go back to them for any questions, Good Luck :-)

  7. Congress let the replacement window tax credit lapse in 2008. Only windows installed in 2006-2007 qualified, and in February they passed a new, bigger credit for 2009 and 2010. But Congress didn’t go back and help out everyone, like you, who replaced their windows last year. They really dropped the ball on this one.
