Can i move windows XP onto replacement hard drive without a CD.?

I need to replace my hard drive but the PC came with windows already installed so I do not have the start up disc. Is there a way to transfer windows to he new disc without having to buy a new copy.

  1. No.

  2. Install the new hard drive as a slave on the computer and use a backup software like Acronis to clone the existing drive. After you are done all you have to do is swap the drives and you'll boot on the new drive with windows and all your programs and personal files on it.

  3. dl n burn a new copy

  4. You are going to need your recovery discs, and if these did not come with your computer you were supposed to make a set yourself in the recovery center. Whatever you do don't go out and buy windows again, your manufacturer will sell you recovery discs that are specific to your computer for around 20.00 USD. You will need your product and serial number.

  5. You can download discwizard from the seagate website that will be able to clone your old XP install to the new. (Discwizard is free)

    here is your link

You will need to install your new drive along side the old - if necessary setting it to slave if its IDE (no need for SATA)

run discwizard and migrate the partition,

remove the old drive and set the new one to master (IDE) and reboot and you are done
