  1. This really depends on the trend of technology.

  2. Great laptop. It def will. You wont be able to play the latest games in a year or two but you will def have something you can use for along time for internet, music, movies and more. Technology isnt changing like it did in the late 1990's.

  3. Not necessary to look at specs. ANY laptop built today will be old and out of date in 4 years. Nothing you can do about it. Technology changes, program requirements change.

  4. It will become obsolete after about 3 years, like all technology does....

    Hope This Helps!

  5. Looks like a solid machine, should keep you happy for several years!

  6. They go out of date every 2 years.

What a person in an IT field learns in his first year, 50% will be obsolete in his third year.

    Technology changes to much.

  7. it's a pretty good computer. It won't become obsolete, but i can guarantee that there will be something far more efficient, faster, smaller, more entertaining, more capable, or more aesthetically pleasing within 4 to 5 years. However, i do believe that you will still be able to use it in 4 years...it just may seem outdated. I think it would be a good choice, except for the windows vista deal. Vista is pleasing to the eye, but a pain in the rear. I would actually recommend apple or just xp. I recommend going to the electronics store and talk to an employee as if you are going to purchase that day, when you really have no intention to. You can get good information to think about. Also you can see the vista vs. xp vs. mac and see what you like/need

  8. If you can use the software you plan on using on a Mac then I would recommend a Macbook Pro instead. Macs tend to last much longer than PCs.

You're on the right track though in overbuilding it. However, even 4GB of ram may not be enough for you especially over time. 64-bit Vista uses up about 1.5GB or more just idle, and if you're running some hefty programs then you're only going to have 2.5 available for those programs. Unfortunately I don't think you can get more than 4GB of memory in many notebooks.

You should also probably go with a core 2 quad if you can instead of the core 2 duo. The core 2 duo is a great processor but at the moment it really only excels in games and only slightly.

Also your 640GB of hard drive space is, I think, a striped pair of 320GB drives, which means if one drive goes bad you lose everything on both drives (but the pairing does increase speed a little).

You will also want to get the longest warranty you can get, or at least plan on extending whatever warranty you do get just before it runs out.
