My hard drive on my Dell Inspiron E1505 that I purchased two years ago now needs a new hard drive and the warranty is done for so they won't help. (I'm planning on saving for a new laptop period, but for now fixing mine is cheaper.) The one I am running is Samsung HM120JI ATA Device. It is 100GB. I am curious as to how much GB I can upgrade it to [that wouldn't need other upgrades] and what would be a good one (brands, etc.)? I looked on TigerDirect and found a bunch of different ones. I am hoping for a price range of less than a $100 and something that I can use a lot since my laptop is usually running and on for my business. I've recently read that laptops run hot and that shortens their life so is there a brand that has hard drives that run cooler than most? I have no problems with replacing the drive, I've had to do that on a computer my mom bought that the hard drive didn't function, but as for the particulars when buying, that's a bit confusing to me so any help would be greatly appreciated. I run Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit). Processor: Intel Core Duo CPU T2350@1.86 GHz. Memory (RAM) 100GB. Dell has a 120 GB 5400RPM Serial ATA Internal HD for $90, but I'd prefer something better and cheaper. I did find this one "Western Digital Caviar SE 320GB Hard Drive - 7200, 8MB, SATA-300, OEM" but since it's OEM they say it would need parts (cables, screws), so would I have to buy new ones? Or would the existing work? OKay, I can only upgrade the memory (RAM) to 2 GB max, so the other question, what is the highest GB I can upgrade hard drive too? Is there a limit? What drive brands run cooler and quieter?
SORRY I have a sticky cap lock button
