  1. don't overlook comparison shopping!! there will be perhaps thousands of dollars difference between vendors. take the time to shop around, don't be pressured or hurry

    it is a good move though, will save you lots in energy cost and make your home look so much better

  2. I am in the process of shopping for my double wide right now. Definitely shop aroung. I have had 3 estimates. One said it was about $3,000 for 6 windows but that he could not remove the old windows because of the way they were installed, that I would have to get a siding guy to cut the siding before the windows could be removed. Sears quoted me $7,000 and couldn't even leave me a brochure.. And a local guy said he could do it for $2843 but he wants 60% downpayment. Legally he should only ask for 10%. Check out the Licensed Contracter website where you live. You can look up each contracter by license # or name and get great consumer information. You can also check out the website of the manufacturers (Milgard, Anderson, Pella etc) to compare features and decide what is important to you. Good luck.
