How much should I expect to pay for vinyl replacement windows?
I have to replace 26 windows in a 66 year old house. These are old wood windows that have NEVER been replaced. I'm looking at a double pane, double hung, Shuco windows w/ a 25 year warranty. I recently got an estimate for $14,100 total (including windows, installation, removal of old windows, taxes, etc). In addition, they will replace my front door and install it at no additional cost. I'm in the DC area and while I have gotten other quotes from other vendors, I was wondering if this particular merchant was offering me a good deal.

- Windows at Home Depot average $200-$350 (vinyl) and you can expect to pay $200 per window for install, if they have to modify the header or frame size of the opening your price will go up per window. If your average was $500 per window/ x26 windows installed your at $13,000 without tax. I think that is a pretty good deal as long as you can get a list of other customers they have done work for and they complete the work within a timely manner. Get everything on paper/ contract.
It sounds like it's a fair price
- i live in the dc area also, for 17 years, and I am a building contractor and I have never heard of shuco windows, also ALWAYS beware of someone giving you something for free.In my opinion I would do some research about the windows, the contractor, ask for references from past jobs that are close that you can go look at and speak to the homeowners,if they shy away from your request, find another contractor.if it sounds too good to be true, than it is.
- if their wood drop ins.. (dbl hung) that your replacing... these are about the quickest to do.. i think you could find someone to do it closer to 350 per window and they would be happy.. i get my windows for about 150$ each( nothing huge) for dropin with no trim 75$ labor. look in wholesale building supply in the yellow pages... stop by a supply house and tell them u were looking for someone to put windows in your house..
