Building first PC. Should the BIOS dectect SATA HD at set up? Can i install windows XP on SATA HD?

motherboard- MSI K9A2 CF-F V2 POWER-500W CPU-AMD phenom 3X HD-SEAGATE BARRACUDA 250Gb SATA OS-Windows XP w/ SP2 When i run the bios setup my motherboard did not detect the SATA drive. Should it? or not? I already returned the motherboard for a replacement, because i assumed SATA ports where defective. If it should detect it, then is it ok to install XP on it??? i heard from sources that you need to install the SATA drivers on a floppy and hit F6 before installing XP. Is it required?? or not. Im afraid that when i receive my replacement that it wont detect the SATA HD again. If this happens then what should i do?? I have a IDE HD on another PC which i can probably sacrifice to get my system up BUT I really dont want to do that unless its absolutely necessary, I want to use the SEAGATE Barracuda, i don't want to have it stored in my desk.

  1. READ THE MANUAL.

You need to go into the bios and make some changes to the hardrive settings.

I should not matter what sata slot you stick the drive in, it should be able to read it. SATA on linux is detected as SCSI device.

Installing Microshaft,,, why? Install Mandriva you will like it more and it is a hell of a lot cheaper and less problems than xp. I use it all of the time.
