Need help deciding on home replacement windows.? I live in Dallas Texas and am in the process of buying replacement windows for my home. Here is what I am deciding between and would love to get some insight form an epert or from others that have recently purchased windows.: 1. Fiberglass vs. Vinyl - Have been quoted Vinyl from Pella. Looks nice but more expensive. Are they worth the extra price (3k? Is it a better to have in hot temperatures? My house shifts so is on more flexable than Vinyl? Is Pella a good brand for Fiberglass? 2. If I was to look at Vinyl I have quotes from Home Depot (Simonton) & Lowes (Dakota and Pella). The Lowes rep. says that Dakota (out of Arkansas) makes a better vinyl product. Anyone know much about Dakota and how it compares to the others. Out of three which is the best? Simonton is about $2,500 more than Dakota. Is it worth the price? Any experience with buying from Home Depot or Lowes. Thanks!

What is a good trustworthy replacement window company? I need new windows and live in NW chicagoland area.? I have gotten a quote from Home depot for 10 windows at $5,250. Just curious to know if there are better options out there. FELDCO is out here. Dont know if they are any better.

When purchasing replacement windows and doors (in my case vinyl) does it pay to go expensive? The cost of high end replacement patio doors and windows is like 3-4 times as the ones you can by at Lowe's or Home Depot. If they last longer, wear better, they might be worth it, but I'm not a rich man, and if the differences are minimal, I don't want to shell out the big bucks. DIY Replacement windows? My husband and I bought an older house (1930?) and it's got the most awful windows you can imagine. When we bought it, the basement bedroom windows were painted and nailed shut and covered with plastic. For fire safety, we had someone "fix" the windows, but essentially what he did was sand them down to the point where you can see daylight around the edges. The work was free to us (gift from our realtor) so I couldn't do much about it. Anyway, I can't afford to have professionals come in and install all new windows in the house. I'd like to, before winter, at least get the basement bedroom windows replaced so my kids, my husband and I don't freeze to death. Where can I find REALLY good, visual, step-by-step information (book form or online would be great) to buying windows from Home Depot or Lowes and installing them myself? Thanks! where do i get a replacement window for a single layer glass sliding window? all the sliding glass windows at Home Depot are double layer glass now. I lost one of my sliding window panels from my kitchen window. i am looking for a replacement. i dont want to replace the whole window, i just want the missing sliding panel to put into the existing window. its not just the glass. i want the missing panel, with the frame. there are 2 sliding panels on each side, and a fixed panel in the middle. One of the panels is missing. not just the glass is missing or broken.

can you buy replacement doors for a newer manufactured home from a regular building supply? my husband and I own a manufactured home we purchased in 2002...it has all the amenities of a regular home including insulation and tape and textured walls, but we keep hearing that when you own a mobile home you can't buy replacement doors or windows from anywhere other a mobile home parts dealer...door measurements are the same as those also sold at home depot so why can't we just buy it there and save money...mobile home parts dealer wants 400.00 for the same door we can buy at home depot for 150.00...

Did got some information on Simonton through Home depot and Kengsington from one of the dealers. There is lot of price difference simonton 15K and kengsington 31K. Replacement Windows - Nothing fancy, just dependable.? I have 14 double hung windows that need to be replaced. All are twin (meaning 2 windows side by side). They are wood single pane. The sills need replacing too. When buying replacement windows, are the whole window and frame (and sill) replaced? I'm looking for vinyl replacements, low e, low solar gain, double pane. Where can I get a Certainteed replacement window? I have Certainteed double hung windows in my house. One side of the bottom sash got cracked and I had it repaired at a local hardware store. It's drafty and I would like to buy another window so that I could replace the leaking sash. I can't find the Certainteed brand at any home center. Lowes carries Pella windows and Home Depot carries American Craftsman or Energy Star windows. I don't need to hire a contractor to get me a window that I'll just be using to replace the bottom sash. Any good ideas on making a window frosted or privacy? My house is very old 80-90 yrs. I cannot replace the window with a modern replacement without changing all of my windows which is a bunch due to historical society restrictions. was I ripped off on Andersons? I added 2 add'l Anderson double hung 200 series 30x46's to the windows that were included and at first I was told that we would be charged their cost for the window at around $260 ea and $50 to install, then the price seemed to change to $360 ea (The contractor wasnt aware that they went up) and $40 ea for the screens. How do I replace an aluminum window sash? The window is an aluminum double pane energy star window. I shattered both panes of tempered glass in the top sash, so I need to replace the whole thing. Fixing a Window Screen? We have a small window in our kitchen and the bottom screen just broke (as in, one of the clips just snapped so the screen keeps falling against the window). How do I redo our Kitchen? Our Kitchen is a do it yourself nightmare from the previous owner. There are currently only two flloor cabinets, one a 42" sink and the other an ancient open frame 1940's vintage cabinet. I've done a rough layout that involves moving the sink location about 5 feet to the left to be under the window and adding other cabinets from Home Depot: Things currently look like this --------------------Window I------------------- Old dish-Old Sink--Gas Stove-----Old cab I There are wall cabinets mounted at sides of room extending to top corner. Wall cabinets are also at top of drawing across stove and current sink. We weren't going to change these since they are in good shape. Dishwasher is currently portable roll around, Stove is gas with flex pipe going to outlet on wall behind . Preferred Layout --------------------Window |New corner-- New sink--New Dish--Stove--New corner cab |New cabs Door------------------Fridges---------------Door Floor is old vinyl that needs replacement and subfloor and walls will probably need work. Bathroom is behind left wall and shares floor with Kitchen. Sink plumbing will need to be moved and new plumbing and electric added for dishwasher. Question: This is an active used kitchen. What do I do first? I wanted to start work on the floor from the top left and then call the plumber after I need the sink moved and finally finish up the cabinets and other side of the room once the top part is in place. Does this make sense? Should I do it a different way? Would really like porcelin or ceramic tile layed over concrete board. Subfloor will probably need some work. I want to try doing the floor piecemeal from the top left, wait a few days and then move appliances to finish the rest. Wife thinks it will be too hard and wants new vinyl. New Home depot cabs are raised off floor with little plastic legs about 2-3 inches and will install toe kick. I have most tools. Experience: Never done cabinets or plumbing. Air handler leaking into drip pan? I have a 5 yr old house. I noticed the aux drain line was dripping over my guest room window. I checked the main drain line near the exterior unit and it wasn't clogged. I then go upstairs in the attic to see and the main drain line was leaking at the connection to the unit. I've gone to Home Depot to put some sealing putty the plumbing rep there told me would work but when i got back to put it on I noticed another leak from underneath the unit itself into the drip pan. Only thing I've found is about 20 yr old units doing this but not a 5 yr old system. Does this warrant a complete air handler replacement?

What exactly does it take to reconfigure an eMachines W3507 to run other than XP MCE 2005 os? I am MAD for the 2 years it was under warranty expired 01/20/09 support refused to provide the os cd missing at purchase & a couple weeks ago my phone/isp server received an aggressive spam attack reboot & screen showed windows cannot start contact system administrator and report this as failed to load kernel dll .After arguing with support for a week I paid again for the cd that the box and documentation said was included but missing at purchase when I ran the cd & support admitted it was faulty not able to load, extract or transfer over 30 files on the save users data option and on the format reinstall feature 47 files did the same thing which ruined my back up wd 80gb hard drive and in spite of Seagate declaring the factory installed Barracuda line defective thus requiring free replacement and undisclosed to me eMachines configured that model to only function with XP Media Center Edition 2005 now tech support having ruined my drive won`t take responsibility for replacing it, their faulty cd OR the Seagate saying they will only depot it for $199 ,(I`m disabled & a functioning computer is a life necessity in rural areas where resources are unavailable & unless they make it right I will be put out of my house and stuck in a nursing home waiting to die & I`m only 46 years old and lawyers won`t come clear out here we simply are not worth their self valued time! I tried trading out other drives with every Windows os from 3.1, 95, 98,98se, xp home, me, w2k, and xp pro none will function the way it was factory configured but I`ve seen other owners of the same W3507 model online & in forums with a variety of os I`d like to pull them support jerks right through the dsl line & slap them I just bought their junk cd a week ago unless you got money to burn and like dealing with thieving jackasses BOYCOTT eMachines! jesus christ almighty doesn`t anyone in this damn country remember minimum standards and quality merchandise aka pride in name brand and workmanship it`s no wonder china owns us yet bankers are racking up billions while kids are dying for lies a war criminal boughtsident perpetrated for greed and the pathetic thing is none of you have a clue
