Where can I get replacement screens for Stanley Windows? My house was built in 2006, I just bought it as a REPO and the previous owners actually took all the window screens, which is very annoying! The brand of the windows is Stanley. I cannot find any information online about Stanley Windows anywhere. Does anyone know anything about this company? Or, where can I order replacement window screens that fit like originals? I am afraid to order them and have them not fit. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!
Can you buy window screen replacement pieces? Our new house has fairly new windows (like 2003) with screens that are attached to the frames by a small rubber lace that is pushed into a little indentation on the frame, can this be purchased? Some of the screens have spots where the lace is missing, and I'd like to close them up. Anyone know what this lace-like stuff is called? Thank you all so much! That was exactly the info I needed. Hooray for Yahoo Answers!

wasps making their way into my house via vinyl replacement windows? What can I do to keep wasps/yellow jackets from entering my house through my vinyl replacement windows? I have even found them between the outside screen and the window when the window is closed, so how are they getting in?? The screens aren't torn either. For the price that we paid for them, I don't expect to have these things coming inside!! Help!
replacement window options? I have a 40 yr old ranch house with single pane, double hung wood windows. The glazing on them is shot, they don't stay up by themselves, and in the winter they are very drafty, even with aluminum 3-track storm windows. Obviously it's time to replace the windows. But because of other exterior problems, I had my house sided last year with new vinyl siding (on top of the old wood siding). I don't want to do anything to damage the new siding. I do not like the look of vinyl windows inside my house, I want wood. On the outside vinyl or aluminum is fine. Also, I'd like to get rid of the ugly aluminum 3-track storms/screen attached to the outside of my windows, so I'll need screens as well as windows. I live the Chicago area, so I need windows that are appropriate for that climate. What are my options to replace these windows, without damaging the siding?
Any pointers on replacing a window screen? I have the replacement screen, the screening spline and the spline hand tool. I've never done this before and would appreciate any helpful advice. Thanks.
Can a failed window seal be fixed? The glass is fogged between the panes.? If so, how do I find someone who can do this? They are old, double-hung wood windows. Also, how do I find replacement screens? In the United States. They are no longer in warranty. The manufacturer was bought out by another company a long time ago, so they don't really exist anymore.
where can i get screen replacements for my windows? i jus broke a couple of screens? i've had them for over 20 years...they are from pella...thanx how much as well?
Changing screens with aluminum spline? I need to replace several ugly metal window screens, but these screens don't have vinyl or rubber spline. To remove the old screens I had to pry out a U-shaped peice of aluminum that fits into the spline groove. Even prying carefully, there's no way to re-use this "spline". I have some larger-than-normal diameter vinyl spline, but it doesn't begin to hold the screen. Is there some type of replacement spline I can use--either vinyl or aluminum?
How To Find Replacement Storm Window? My bed room window used to have a piece of glass in between the regular window and the screen that could slide up and down. It was there to provide extra insulation. I don't even know what these things are called. Well one day it was up and came down too fast and it broke. Now my room is the coldest in the house because that window is no longer there. I have no idea how to go about finding a replacement. Where would I start my search? Stanley, I have several others on my other windows just like the one that broke, couldn't they measure by that and just copy that one?
Fixing a Window Screen? We have a small window in our kitchen and the bottom screen just broke (as in, one of the clips just snapped so the screen keeps falling against the window). We measured the screen to be about 16" x 32". Could we get a replacement screen at, say, home depot? or do we need to find a custom window repair shop?
How legally binding are condominium rules and regulations and by-laws on an owner ? I have replaced white screens on my covered sunporch with white replacement windows and added insulation in the ceiling, making it a year round sunroom. The porch was built by the original builder and there is only one other like it in the whole condominim complex it being just below my unit. They were built 25 years ago for the builders parents (on the ground floor), and his in-laws (on the second floor - my unit). My condominium's board of directors insists that I paint all of the white window trim a brown to match exisitng color of other windows of the building, and until that is done, I will be in violation of the Garden Condominium Rules and Regulations. I claim that because I have replaced the white screens with white windows, I am in compliance with their rule of not changing the exterior of the building. How binding are their rules and regulations? They also claim they are not liable for the outside maintainence of this added room.

Laptop keyboard replacement issues.? I have a dell inspiron 1525 and I spilled a sticky orange beverage on it and as a result, had to replace the keyboard (myself). The installation went beautifully and when I powered it up, it worked! (On that "Start Windows Normally" screen) However, when I reached Vista, (sign in and whatnot) it didn't work. I restarted it with exactly the same results. It seems to be a driver issue, although my computer says it's up to date, and I have no idea what drivers I would need to install! Can someone please help me? I'm so tired of typing with this On-Screen Keyboard crap.
Where Can I Find A Dash or HTC S620 LCD Screen Replacement? I Have A Windows Dash Cellphone But The LCD Screen Is Cracked And Needs To Be Replaced.
This website ignored my request for return/exchange..? Here is my story. I purchase a HP6338 Notebooked on 6/18 at ecomelectronics.com. I received the item on 6/27 (I still have UPS record). The notebook stopped working properly on 7/5. I tried to ask a friend who's good at computer to see if it's just a small problem. Then this guy said he couldn't figure out. He was able to go to windows(vista) but then screen would basically freeze there. He told me since it's a new merchandise I should just call the website for an exchange. Therefore I emailed them regarding to this issue. Like you can predict, they told me to seek HP for help. And I did. HP couldn't solve it and suggested the same thing-get a replacement. I emailed again to the website and they just replied things like, as described earlier, you need to contact HP and etc...Then I replied and saying that I wanna return since this "newly-puchased" item gave me so much headache. Then I never received any email back. Can anyone please tell me what to do with this?
this question is about vinyl replacement windows.........those little orange ladybug looking things keep? getting in around the screen and able to get in the house if we open the window.......what can we do so they can't get in.....those bugs are very bothersome!!.......any ideas or solutions?
Windows XP problem? IBM Think Pad Windows XP when turning on the laptop the first screen shows the logo for IBM thinkpad windows xp then reverts to a black screen w/the following info: we apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully....etc the options to choose from are: safe mode, safe mode w/networking, safe mode w/command prompt, last known good configuration, start windows normally If you select any of the above it does not help a blue screen also comes up w/ "unmountable_boot_volume" if you select nothing I have a PC Med-Kit disk that I was told should fix the problem but to no avail I need to try and retrieve applications/items from the hard drive so I can move them to the replacement laptop. The disk that I have will not boot up, it's like the computer doesn't recognize it
What do you think is wrong with my laptop and how can I fix this problem? Here we go, Ive read many screen problems but not sure if they are the same as mine. So im going to try my best to describe it. Im running Windows XP Its a HP Pavilion dv4000 (laptop) About 2 weeks ago I started to see a tint of red in the corner of my screen. Everyday the tint of red would transform and move on the screen.Otherwise, if it was located in the bottom left corner one day and then shifted to the middle of the screen. The bottom left corner looked perfectly normal again. I lived with this for a while until my screen turned black. My cpu would still be running but the screen went out. Then I realized that the image was still there. The light bulb (?) was not on. If I put a flashlight or placed the laptop under bright light I can see the screen. So now im thinking its maybe just : 1. Burnt out light bulb? 2. Bad chip somewhere? Now when I shut my laptop off and let it sit for a while and restart it. The screen comes on perfectly fine and theres no red at all and it looks like its working fine. But then after a short period of time, anywhere from 5-15 minutes. The light goes out on me again but the image is definately on screen. My question basically is this: What do you think is causing this problem? bad screen? bulb? chip? What can I do to fix this problem? I would love to keep this computer and simply repair it since it does give me that hope for 10 minutes after restarting it. Ive been told a screen replacement is so expensive that its better to buy a new laptop (if thats even the problem). But then again Ive seen videos on youtube of people having screen problems and they replace a $20-30 chip and its fixed. Thanks for any help.
I have just received my replacement printer, I am still having the same problem, can it be the cartridges? It is blinking at the check print cartridge and color window. The screen says E at copies and the paper is loaded. This is the same problem I had last week and the tech said it was a hardware problem and sent me a new one.
Need hardware computer help? I have a Dell Inspiron 700m notebook computer and the hard drive died. I recently purchased the replacement hard drive, but I haven't been able to install Windows XP on the new hard drive from the CD. Every time I try to install Windows XP, either the computer turns itself off or it resets itself when it is at the Windows Setup Screen. What could be causing this problem?? It's a new hard drive so I don't understand the problem.
Hard drive replacement? I have my Sony PCV-RZ40CG desktop for several years with no problem. Recently, upon startup, it went to a screen saying something about a S.M.A.R.T system (which I never heard about in the past) and it was saying that the hard drive status was bad, and to back up/replace it... Well, I tried several different ways to back my stuff up to anouther drive, with the aid of a few friends who know this stuff, but with no luck. Now, I only want to replace my hard drive with a new one, just to get it working again, and I'm putting off data recovery until later, but I'm not sure which drive to get. The original was a WD 200GB IDE, any suggestions? Also, the computer came with no recovery disks, and when I first booted it, it wanted me to burn them myself... I was wondering, with the recovery disks I made, will I be able to reinstall the Windows XP Media Center Edition on the new drive? I really don't want to have to buy a new OS if possible. Ask if you have any ?'s, thanxx in advance. As far as ghosting, no, I was one of those people who figured "hard drive crashes won't happen to me..." Well, once I get it going again, I'm gonna do every data backup method I know of =] And the only reason I asked about if the recovery disks would work is because I tried to use them on my original drive, just to see if that would work, and it said that the recovery partition on the drive could not be read... which lead me to believe that the recovery disks require that of the original drive. Hopefully, I'll be getting a new drive tomorrow, and I guess I'll see then... I appreciate the help, and any other info you can give would be most appreciated. One last note, any suggestion of a good brand? I heard Maxtor is unreliable, and I personally don't want another WD, since just the day before it happened, it was in perfect working condition. Thanxx! As far as Safe Mode goes, sometimes when I try to start it, it will let me choose Safe Mode, last known good configuration, etc... I have tried all the options several times, and it never loads past that, after a while on the Windows XP screen, I get a blue screen saying that there was a physical memory dump (or something like that) and to get my administrator... which, unfortunately, is myself, haha. But yeah, won't even get to the logon screen, which is why I previously assumed the drive is just shot, and why I decided to just try to focus on getting it to work again for now. Thanxx for all the info everyone, I'm gonna try it out probably tomorrow or Tusday, and I'll rate it after I (hopefully) get it up and running.

Car front windscreen mists up after replacement? Hello, I had my front car windscreen replaced after a chip. Since then it has been misting up badly. Usually just that window. Never had such a problem with my previous screen. Could it not be sealed up properly?

Repairing/replacing old Pella window cranks? On a six unit apartment building, converted from church to apartments about 20+ years ago, the Pella window crank 'male' part has all the teeth worn off. The crank was installed and then the wood window frame was installed around it. I have tried to drill through the crank and insert an an expandable "shim" (may be wrong word). Even with "hard steel" drill bits, it only makes a tiny dent. There are about 55 cranks that need to be repaired or replaced. I have contacted a Pella dealer, but they do not sell just the parts; they have to do the work too. They quoted me $90.00 for a 18" x 48" screen replacement!! I feel that there should be a way to replace just the male part and then put a standard handle on it. I'm a dyi landlady and have not won the lottery to pay that kind of money. There are about 55 cranks that need to be repaired or replaced. I have contacted a Pella dealer, but they do not sell just the parts; they have to do the work too. They quoted me $90.00 for a 18" x 48" screen replacement. (That's was $39 for the screen and $50.00 for shipping).Pella does not sell the screen frame for dyi and they have a different screen/frame connection.

The replacement LCD on my laptop is too dim. What is the problem? My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 9400. I replaced a broken LG LP171WU1 (WUXGA) with a Samsung LTN170WX-L03 (WXGA). However, when I boot my computer, the replacement screen is only at about 50% brightness. Changing the brightness in Windows XP does nothing. Reinstalled Windows, updated drivers, no change. Changing the brightness in BIOS does nothing. I have the latest BIOS. Changed the inverter board, no change. IT IS NOT THE BACKLIGHT. The screen works perfect in a 9200 series laptop computer. If I reseat the LCD cable from the motherboard to the screen/inverter during operation, the screen will go to 90-100% brightness, but I still cannot change the brightness through any method. How can I fix this? Once I restart the computer, the problem comes back. If I re-seat the connection, it will return to 90-100% brightness, but only until the screen goes to sleep or the computer is shut down.
Removing a picture from the startup/shutdown of my pc There is a picture that comes up from a previous owner of this pc at the startup and shut down. It is after the windows xp logo and the welcome page. It is before the wallpaper. It is not the little icon for a user. It is full screen and appears for a about 10 seconds before the wallpaper and icons come up. It also appears right before shutdown. This picture is not a replacement for the xp logo screen. Every answer in previous attempts to get help directs me to change the windows logo screen. This is not the issue. I am computer novice so any help would be great. Thanks
Why do Toshiba take two weeks to supply a new motherboard for my laptop? I have a Toshiba Satellite M60 which I bought about 15 months ago. It had a new mother board in December because every time it shut down I got a Blue WIndows screen. Recently it not powering up properly and I took it back to the dealer (who also repairs Toshibas). They told me it would take two weeks to get a replacement mother board and they cannot work out why the battery is no longer charging. Since I need a computer for my work I am effectively not working for two weeks - what can I do?

Looking for a fairly high performance laptop? Three years ago I purchased an Alienware Area-51 laptop. I regretted it--- I realized later that it was a bit of a lemon, and had no end of technical issues. Now I'm looking for a new one. As you can see from my old laptop, I'm looking for a gaming laptop, but it also needs to be a good laptop for a student. That said, I don't play a lot of FPSes, so I don't need a bleeding-edge laptop--- just one that can, say, run World of Warcraft smoothly on the high settings and run something like Left 4 Dead well. 1) What is your budget? - As much as $3,000 dollars if it's the perfect fit. Ideally, $2500 or less 2) What size notebook would you prefer? a. Netbook; 10” screen or less b. Ultraportable; 11" - 12” screen c. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen d. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen e. Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen - 17''+ is ideal, and I won't go smaller then 16''. 3) Where will you buying this notebook? You can select the flag of your country as an indicator. 4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? a. Like: None in particular, though HP is ok. Also, I've liked the specs I've seen on some ASUS products. b. Dislike: Dell, Mac 5) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook? - Low to mid-intensity gaming, student usage 6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both? - Both 7) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games or types of games? - As stated above, games with middling graphics intensity like World of Warcraft and most Steam titles not named Half Life 2. 8) How many hours of battery life do you need? 3 is ideal. 2 is good. 1.5 is mandatory. 9) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK? 10) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS, Linux, etc. - Only have experience with Windows. Screen Specifics 11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer? a. WXGA – 1280x800 or occasionally 1280x768; For people who like big text and icons that are easy to read. Less stuff fits on the screen, which translates into more scrolling. b. WXGA+ – 1440x900; A modest bump over WXGA. Text and icons are a bit smaller. A little more stuff fits on the screen. c. WSXGA+ – 1680x1050; The middle ground. Again, text and icons are smaller than WXGA+, and more stuff fits onto the screen. Good for having applications open side by side, like a web browser while playing a video. d. WUXGA - 1920x1200; Very small text and icons, that can be hard to read. Lots of stuff fits on the screen, which means less scrolling. Good for applications that require a high level of detail like CAD or Photo Editing. 12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen? - Glossy is ideal Build Quality and Design 13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you? - Fairly. 14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last? - Don't knew when I'll be buying it (possibly soon), but I'd like it to last a minimum of 3 years with little trouble. Notebook Components 15) How much hard drive space do you need; 80GB to 500GB? Do you want a SSD drive? 250+GB. 320GB is great, 500GB might be excessive for my needs. Don't need a SSD drive, and they cost too much anyway. 16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive? Yes. Blu-Ray drive would be nice, but a lack of at least a CDRW/DVD-ROM is a deal-breaker. I made a slight error with my question post--- regarding resolution, I prefer 1440-900 or 1680-1050.
Windows XP blue screens and restarting? I posted this a few minutes ago and people asked for more details, so I got them. My computer will, at a somewhat predictable interval (about after 5 minutes of being up), come up with an XP-style blue screen. The error message at the top varies between four or five different ones. Sometimes it will restart automatically, sometimes it won't. When it comes up again, the Windows error form thing comes up and sends Microsoft an error report - it then takes me to a screenw here it gives me two pieces of advice: update my video driver or slow down my hardware acceleration. There is no update to my driver, and I've slowed the acceleration down as much as it will go, but the problem persists. The problem especially seems to happen right when I try to change my hardware acceleration. I have an active full replacement warranty on her. The computer is a 9-month old Toshiba P35 3.5GHz, with XP Home edition. I have absolutely no problems with her until four hours ago. Any suggestions?

Lots of stuff fits on the screen, which means less scrolling. Good for applications that require a high level of detail like CAD or Photo Editing. No clue 12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen? Matte/non-glossy screen, but I'm not really picky Build Quality and Design 13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you? It has to look good 14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last? Anywhere from 2-5 years Notebook Components 15) How much hard drive space do you want; 80GB to 500GB? Do you want a SSD drive? I honestly don't know how much space I need, maybe 120GB - 250 GB? And I don't know what a SSD drive is. 16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive? CDRW/DVD-ROM which laptop would be best? something specific if u can! thanx!
was I ripped off on Andersons? I added 2 add'l Anderson double hung 200 series 30x46's to the windows that were included and at first I was told that we would be charged their cost for the window at around $260 ea and $50 to install, then the price seemed to change to $360 ea (The contractor wasnt aware that they went up) and $40 ea for the screens. That seems like a lot for a double hung, I saw the same window at home depot for $265 + $20 for the screen, maybe they were replacements and I am getting new construction, but still seems a lot more.
Help! Replacement Harddrive needed, I dropped my laptop!? I dropped my laptop last night while it was on, it froze, so I restarted it, when I started it up, it went to the windows recovery screen. I have ran the recommended repair/recovery several times, but it still wont run. It keeps coming back with an error about removable devices?? I have already posted this and a few people suggested its the hard drive. Where would I get a new one and how much would it be roughly? My laptop is a Sony Vaio VGN series??
Tenant vacated premises with keys - can I change locks, and charge him? I am in a sticky situation with a tenant. I am the landlord, and we lived together. He decided to not stay at the house and go home for summer. He has a year lease that ends at the end of June. He completely vacated the premises on June 13th without notice (I did not realize until I came home that day), and he removed all of his belongings as well. I verbally told him that he must replace window screens and clean his room to receive his deposit. He came back today (June 16th) to fix his room, but the replaced screens improperly fit in the window frame - they must be replaced again. The tenant is extremely disrespectful to me over the phone, and a constant headache that insists on things working through his time and his way. Do I have to give him another chance in replacing the screens? Also, he still is in possession of the keys. Can I demand that he return them within (5?) days or risk being charged for the replacement of locks? He has removed all belongings in the house. Lastly, he failed to mention that his window is cracked from side to side (it appears he shot it with a BB gun) and needs to be replaced as well. I only noticed this today - do I have to give him a chance to replace this? It seems extremely obvious to me. I feel he was hiding this from me. The last thing I want to do is see this tenant again. He is a constant misery. Ideally, I would like to not have to meet him face to face. I would like to charge all the reparations to his deposit, and give him whats left. I do not want him to return to fix the house. P.S. I live in California P.S.S. If you are able to provide a place for me to reference such regulations, that would be extremely helpful. I have intensively looked at the lease. It mentions that the tenant has the right to "remedy identified deficiencies prior to termination" as provided by an inspection. I feel he had the opportunity to do so.

Blue Screens, Lost Boot Disks, and Extra Fail. ? My other computer started Blue Screening quite often a while back, and I wrote it off as a minor inconvenience. It then got more frequent, eventually getting to the point where my computer can no longer boot. It starts loading up Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, and Blue Screens; every time. I believe it to be a hardware failure, but I'm willing to explore the chance that it's a software failure. Basically, I wanted to pop in the boot disks for WinXPMC'05, 'cept I don't quite know where they... are. What's even worse is that the Serial Number/Product Key is written on a sticker that came attached to the computer, just mocking me. So, basically, I need to find replacement boot disks; how do I go about that? I mean, I tried to torrent some, but they all were listed as coming with cracks and hacks and a whole bunch of other illegal things that I don't want or need. Also, once I've replaced my boot disks, how do I go about actually... y'know, actually putting them to use? I've never completely reformatted a computer, and don't quite know how. When I put the disks in, does it just automatically know before it tries to boot the 'ol OS, or is there something you have to press to make it look at the CD you've got in the drive? I had 1GB of RAM, and believe that I have never exceeded the limitations of my computer.
dell 640M/E1405 screen problem? i have a dell 640M/E1405 laptop that needed a new screen replacement..this is the screen i bought: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370439651922&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT the problem is, there is no backlight...i can see an image on the screen, but the screen is very dim...i thought the problem is the power inverter, so i ordered the same one as the old one and still get the same problem...i connected a vga cable from the laptop to my tv and i get and image on the screen (windows starting up, windows desktop)..could anyone with some knowledge on computer repairs help? like some ideas or whatever...Thanks in advance..
Laptop screen can only be seen when it is open at certain angles?.? A few months ago after taking my laptop out of my sister's room, I opened it and the screen was completely black. I could only see vague shadows of the window that was currently on the screen. However, when I completely open the laptop, the screen turned on and worked fine. Up until now, if I keep the screen completely open, I can use my laptop very easily. But if I do not open it completely(like if the screen and the keyboard cross at a right angle), the screen is black. This got very annoying but I quickly got used to it. The screen could also be seen when the laptop was almost closed. The screen has recently gone entirely black except when it is almost closed. This makes it close to impossible to use the laptop. Is there anything I can do to fix this? There is nothing wrong with the laptop except the screen which doesn't work properly. If I can't fix this, is it possible to get a replacement screen for a laptop that I could somehow hook up to it and use?
Movie Maker Replacement? For reasons too tedious to mention, Windows Media Player keeps refusing to load and/or giving me the blue screen of death every time I try to open a file. Can anyone direct me to similar style freeware? I don't want anything fancy -just something with the basics that will get the job done without crashing. Can anyone direct me to similar style freeware? I don't want anything fancy -just something with the basics that will get the job done without crashing. EDIT: Also, please note I am looking for a MOVIE MAKER, not a media player. Sorry to shout, but I already have VLC, and that's not my problem.
Buy an Aleinware for Replacement? I have a sony vaio PCG-K33(laptop) and it has some minor hard drive problems. aside from being only 60GB, i read reviews for it and everyone said that harddrive spins at slowerspeed than avg. at 4200 RPM. that could be the problem. No way to fix it? so i'm thinkin' to try an sell this laptop on ebay. it is a 3.1 GHZ super-fast but small HD. and has 512MB DRAM. and 1GB virtual memory. Pentium 4 Desktop Processor. Bad thing is intergrated ATI graphics w/64MB. Although still better than Intel Media Accelerators, the 3D games have some lag. Rich, vibrant colors from the awesome XBRITE LCD screen exclusively on Sony Vaio's. Runs Windows XP HE.wieght is approx. 8lbs. Got it for about $2000. 2004 model. How much would it sellfor? What SATA driver do I need for a DG33BUC motherboard? I bought this as a replacement motherboard and now need to reinstall windows xp. If I try to load it up it says no drive found to install to basically, if I try to load up the AHCI drivers that I did find they all give me the blue screen of death. Not to mention there are 8-12 to choose from and they all seem to do the same thing. Any ideas? I'm about to part the thing out on ebay and buy a Dell or something.
motherboard, cpu, RAM replacement causing serious problems?? I removed my harddrive from a stock Compaq S6010V and I also removed the CD RW drives and the floppy drive from the S6010V.. Now I bought a new Doom case with a 400Watt power supple, a biostar SATA motherboard, and an AMD athlon 2.20ghz 3700+ cpu and new 512mb PC3200 DDR Ram. So now i'm gonna put the removed harddrive with my files on it into the new case and connect it to the new stuff.. problem is the harddrive has a copy of Windows XP Home installed on it from Compaq.. Furthermore, the harddrive used to run on an Intel Celeron 2.5 ghz processor. big question is what is windows xp gonna do when it recognizes the hardware change? is it gonna flip out on me? n then what do i do if it flips out n gives me the blue screen of death r somethin like that. for this situation i have a drivers installation cd that came with the new mobo and i can borrow a windows xp cd from a friend.. besides that umm its up to u guys and girls to gimme suggestions. i don't even know if windows will flip on me oh yeah plz don't suggest me that i make a copy of my files b4 i attempt anything bcuz i can't anymore since my old mobo flipped on me and died out.. so i can't do anything now.. also the chipset on the new mobo r most likely different from the old one unless i got extremely lucky while ordering it.. so i can't make a copy of the files n the chipset is different.. so any bright ideas?? am i screwed unless i buy a new windows xp cd cuz at this point the last thing i wanna do is spend another 110 bucks on it..

Is it safe to delete the file rtlgina.dll? I tried to upgrade the computer to Windows Service Pack 2, but when it was doing a compatibility test, Replacement Logon Software came up, saying something like " This software is not compatible with Windows, Please uninstall." i found out the file was rtlgina.dll, a program which replaces the original microsoft log in screen. If I continue with the update, this file would be deleted but will it mess up my computer? Thanks

any windows taskbar replacements? i hate the taskbar more than anything else in life...well, maybe not that much, but i could do with a better alternative. i want something like the desktop, where i can move things around the screen and group things as i see fit. i'm very visual and want things spaced out, not in little tabs. i want to hit alt-tab and have all those things pop up real nice-like. i'd even be happy with something that would be similar to firefox tabs, custumizable and such

Good for having applications open side by side, like a web browser while playing a video. d. Where can i get replacements files for the basic system files for windows XP SP2? I've messed around with some system files and deleted all the basic ones when i clicked a cmd file. Those missing are mainly the accessories such as calculator, paint, notepad and major programmes such as windows move maker and Outlook express as well as Internet Explorer (i've tried reinstalling IE but it still dosent work). The biggest problem now is that i lost core system files such as the windows login screen, task manager and whenever i click the shutdown (turn off computer) button, the computer will just hang and freeze at that page. Is there anywhere i can download and just simply replace those files or reinstall them without using system restore or reformatting etc?
Notebook/Laptop for entertainment travel and a little gaming? Looking for a new Windows laptop with about 80-100gb of space, at least a 1gb of RAM, and somewhere around 1.8-2.0ghz of speed. Any suggestions on processor types? I have had really bad experiences with Celeron processors, so I am trying to stay away from those. I will be using the laptop as a travel laptop, desktop replacement, music and photo storage and editing, and a little bit of low-end gaming. I would like to spend in the low to mid 1,000 dollar range. Any suggestions, older models are fine. Weight isnt really a big issue, would prefer a smaller screen size however to cut back on space. Thanks Just sold my MacBook...

My Head Hurts - Which Laptop??????? I've done SO much research without much luck, that I'm ready to throw the laptop that I don't have yet, out of the window. Can someone with some laptop knowledge, help? I've looked at Vaio's, Toshiba's, Dells, Gateways, Alienware, HP and on and on. I'd like 2G of RAM and 160G hard drive. Screen size doesn't matter. It's not a replacement desktop. I'd like one that's well-rounded, does a little of everything, preferably have Word, good wireless card and good battery life, standard drives, DVD, CDRW etc. The price hasn't been set at this point, although Alienware is a little too pricey after adding the bells and whistles. I've looked at all the top PC Mags, whose views seem to differ from the publics'...more confusion. So don't send me to those please. I'd rather someone with knowledge and someone who has owned a few and can share their experiences can help. If you can, you'll definitely have earned the10 points! Thanks!
Need help recovering vista? My wifes HP computer is having issues loading up and i need to find a way to make a recovery CD without the ability to get on her computer or to do anything at all in fixing it. Do I need to call HP and get a replacement disc or what. Any info will help but her main problem with the comp is it will goto the splash screen, then say "Windows Loading Files...." then goto a new screen with the standard loading graphic then blue screen.
My screen first appears color-distorted, then freezes. How to solve it? My computer (desktop) is 7 years old now, but it has undergone some upgrades before due to faulty hardware. As far as I remember, my motherboard, video card, and memory are the ones that were replaced. The most recent replacement was I think 2-3 years ago. I just notice this a few months ago. While I'm playing a game, my screen just appears to pixelate, then it freezes. I'm forced to restart the computer. When I restart, everything is back to normal, until I open the game again. It's quite annoying, because it stops me from playing continuously. The first game that I was playing since the problem was RAN online. Next, I installed Ragnarok online because it has lower requirements, but I still got the same result. My computer is Pentium III, 731 Mhz, 512mb RAM, Windows XP SP2. Not sure if my computer is 32 or 64mb video card. I also changed my monitor because the original one was broken. I don't think that the monitor cable is the cause though; the cable is properly connected. I have also set all the video and sound quality to a low enough setting. My color quality is at 32 Bit.
Laptop not working? Hard drive failure? I got an IBM Thinkpad T42. For probably over a year it hasn't work, and I didn't try to really do anything since I got a new thinkpad right before it stopped working. I'm trying to fix this up for someone now. Here's the problem. When I power on, I press the blue 'Access IBM' button. After a minute, i get the following message: \minint\system32\biosinfo.inf could not be loaded error 4096 I then restart the system until I get to the screen that tells me windows XP did not shut down normally. I choose safe mode. When it starts to go through everything, these are the last 2 files it gets hung up on. mup.sys agp440.sys (the last one) I only include mup.sys because that's a problem I've had with my other thinkpad when it overheats and crashes sometimes. When all the files are listed, something comes up at the bottom of the screen for a few seconds saying something about pressing escape. I press escape. A blue screen comes up only for a second. STOP: c0000221 {Bad Image checksum} The image kernel32.dll is possibly corrupt. The header checksum does not match the computed checksum. It then goes to the windowsXP load screen with the graphic and the horizontal bar moving. (it's not frozen, just gets hung up and loops forever) I restart the system. try 'last good configuration' and as I type this, it's been about 15 minutes at the windows xp load screen. When I start in safe mode, I also sometimes get these errors instead of the checksum one: There has been a signature failure. A disk read error occurred. or.. STOP: c0000221 Unknown HardError \SystemRoot\system32\ntdll.dll Anyone have any ideas? Not sure if it's corrupted files, a corrupted HDD that needs replacement or something else. I was possibly gonna sell this so I want to know if it can be anything besides the hard drive.
Did anyone notice the screen problem on the Blackberry Bold? The spacing between the plastic cover and the screen itself has no "cushion" if it was to get hit. If you look at other phones, there is a moderate space between the screen itself and the plastic window of the phones face. I am a bit apprehensive to get it because I fear a bad hit will crack the screen. The gels only cover the edges, which isn't the problem here, and the full flap cases just look tacky. I think I am going to wait until the new version of the BB phones come out next year. Maybe someone at BB will notice the same flaw that I saw and fix it. What do you think? Am I too critical? I really cant afford not to have a phone for 4 days as I wait for a replacement sent to me.
Rain on Laptop. Laptop works, but no backlight. Can see icons using a flashlight. Power inverter or backlight? I was given a Dell Inspiron 700m that has been rained on. I don't know the details, but I think the laptop was open, powered on, near an open window, and rain got on the keyboard. Not sure. The main problem is that the Backlight does not turn on. When I power it on, I can see the LCD screen change its state. And if I shine a flashlight onto it at the right angle, I can see the Dell boot screen and eventually the Windows XP desktop. All other functions are normal. When I connect an external monitor to the laptop, I can see the picture just fine. I've been researching online and it sounds like the problem is either the Power Inverter or the Backlight. I'm going to do this repair on my own. And it looks like changing the Power Inverter is the easier replacement. So I'd like to start with it. Is there any way for me to tell which it is for sure? Both parts are fairly inexpensive, but I want to keep costs to a minimum. Thank you!
