Need help deciding on home replacement windows.? I live in Dallas Texas and am in the process of buying replacement windows for my home. Here is what I am deciding between and would love to get some insight form an epert or from others that have recently purchased windows.: 1. Fiberglass vs. Vinyl - Have been quoted Vinyl from Pella. Looks nice but more expensive. Are they worth the extra price (3k? Is it a better to have in hot temperatures? My house shifts so is on more flexable than Vinyl? Is Pella a good brand for Fiberglass? 2. If I was to look at Vinyl I have quotes from Home Depot (Simonton) & Lowes (Dakota and Pella). The Lowes rep. says that Dakota (out of Arkansas) makes a better vinyl product. Anyone know much about Dakota and how it compares to the others. Out of three which is the best? Simonton is about $2,500 more than Dakota. Is it worth the price? Any experience with buying from Home Depot or Lowes. Thanks!
Replacement home windows? Are Pella replacement windows good windows and are they east to install. All I ever see is white and dose this stand out to bad with darker trim.
Measuring for home replacement windows...? I have 4 windows that I need to replace. Any ideas or suggestions(or websites) on how to measure for and replace them myself with new vinyl windows? Thanks for the help!
Average cost of replacement windows for home?? per window? we cannot afford right know to do the whole house so i was thinking of just starting with our kitchen. whats an average cost per window with installation? i'm not sure what size is average but my kitchen has three windows, also i measured on the inside of frame which i hope is correct. the kitchen measurements are 35x44 27x52 and 22x35. anybody know how much i should look at spending??
is there tax credits for home window replacement? The windows in our home (8 years old) are rotting and are very drafty in the winter. Our heating bills last winter averaged $1,400 month. Do you know if there is grant money or tax credits for replacing home windows to save on energy costs?
Can I buy a replacement product key for Windows XP Home? I have a Windows XP Home disc sitting here that i have kept, i believe i have used up all 3 tries that they give you per disc. I just want to know if it's possible to buy a new key for it or if there's another way to make this work... Is There?
Should I choose vinyl or non-vinyl replacement windows? I need advice on whether to buy vinyl replacement windows for my home. I am finding mixed information on the Web. I know that vinyl windows can be very energy efficient, but I am concerned about dioxin and other toxins linked to vinyl. I just got an estimate today, and the non-vinyl windows (fiberglass) are nearly twice as expensive as the vinyl ones. Can you help me decide?
what is the current pricing for replacement windows? ...termites ate the window pane surrounding my kitchen window. (the termite problem has been dealt with!) I am looking to get the window replaced, and am looking to go more energy efficient. how much should i expect to pay? where can i find information about home windows that are energy-efficient? i also vaguely recall hearing about a possible tax credit for purchasing energy efficient products for the home, such as windows... any info about this would also be greatly appreciated!
What can I expect to pay for 3 replacement windows in our home? I know the variables are great, but I'm interested in "standard-size", double-hung? (slides up & down), tilt-in (for easy clean), double-paned (energy efficient for tax-credit), vinyl-framed(?) windows. I was quoted $2,300 for 3 window replacements yesterday, and was just astounded they are basically $767 apiece! - They would have a lifetime warranty (transferable), but...Dang! We're down to one income now and need a cheaper (but reliable) alternative. Or, is that considered "average" pricing? I'd consider other in-home estimates, but after making the salesman angry because I wouldn't commit to a sale last eve, I'm hesitant to waste anyone else's time if I don't want to agree to their pricing. :( I should add, this a 50+ yr. old home & windows. Most of them are "tall" and would probably have to be custom-fit, but installation may not be as big an issue as first thought to be...My spouse does maintenance work for a living; he's just never replaced Ws. - So, I then wonder if it's better to be done by a professional for the benefit of customer service/satisfaction if a problem arise. (ie: "insurance" asides from the W itself.) It seems there are some great deals out there with Buy 1, Get 1 Free, etc. - I'll just keeping checking around, and stop inviting strangers into my home to see how much money they can get out of us! ;)
Have you bought replacement windows for your home? Who was the Manufacturer? Are you happy? Why or Why Not? I have asked a similar question that you can review at: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080111154643AAjePFv&r=w ....but THIS question is different as I want to know if YOU HAVE HAD YOUR OWN WINDOWS REPLACED or if you work for a firm that manufactures windows. TELL ME A BRAND. Be specific on why you are happy or not happy with your windows. If you are comfortable mentioning it, how much did you pay (or how much do you charge if you are a manufacturer). This is an expensive proposition for me, and nothing is better than testimonials. Not to sound rude, but if you haven't had your windows replaced or don't manufacture windows, best save this space for someone who has/does. Thanks in advance for all of your kind assistance.
What are good replacement windows to buy? I want to replace the windows in a home I am buying- any ideas or suggestions on what I should look for- any reputable companies in the NJ area you know of? Thanks.
Which is easier new windows or replacement windows? I am putting new windows in my house, the house was built in 1920 or so and we are looking to replace the windows, would it be easier for me to do new windows or replacement windows, I am fairly good are home repairs.
Replacement windows from the company Royal Windows based in Arkansas....? I had a salesman come out to give me a quote from some replacement windows. When he gave me the quote, it was outrageous and I said so and so he called his home office and said he would drop the price. He dropped it right there and then in half. That is a red flag for me. Has anyone else had this happen? I really do like the windows, but I don't want to be taken for a ride either.
Does anyone have recommendations for replacement windows? My wife and I just started looking at purchasing replacement windows. We had an Appleby sales rep. at our home tonight and their product is impressive but they are expensive. To put some perspective on the weather we have, we live in the South Eastern Pennsylvania area. Has anyone done any previous research or have recommendations (possitive or negative) that they would be willing to share? Thanks!

I lost one of my sliding window panels from my kitchen window. i am looking for a replacement. i dont want to replace the whole window, i just want the missing sliding panel to put into the existing window. its not just the glass. i want the missing panel, with the frame. there are 2 sliding panels on each side, and a fixed panel in the middle. One of the panels is missing. not just the glass is missing or broken.
DIY Replacement windows? My husband and I bought an older house (1930?) and it's got the most awful windows you can imagine. When we bought it, the basement bedroom windows were painted and nailed shut and covered with plastic. For fire safety, we had someone "fix" the windows, but essentially what he did was sand them down to the point where you can see daylight around the edges. The work was free to us (gift from our realtor) so I couldn't do much about it. Anyway, I can't afford to have professionals come in and install all new windows in the house. I'd like to, before winter, at least get the basement bedroom windows replaced so my kids, my husband and I don't freeze to death. Where can I find REALLY good, visual, step-by-step information (book form or online would be great) to buying windows from Home Depot or Lowes and installing them myself? Thanks! RE: expanding foam - I don't want the windows to be inoperable.
We bought a 50 year old ranch home that has the old up and down slide windows; need new ones but where? These windows resemble the windows on the older storm doors that go up and down and click into the slots. Ours are leaking and all the felt has worn away leaving big gaps where all the rain and snow comes into the sun porch. We do not know if you can purchase these type of windows any more and really cannot afford to redo the porch with new windows and frames. Plus; the windows are not all the same size and there are 16 of them. Does any one have any idea where we may be able to purchase replacement windows?
can you buy replacement doors for a newer manufactured home from a regular building supply? my husband and I own a manufactured home we purchased in 2002...it has all the amenities of a regular home including insulation and tape and textured walls, but we keep hearing that when you own a mobile home you can't buy replacement doors or windows from anywhere other a mobile home parts dealer...door measurements are the same as those also sold at home depot so why can't we just buy it there and save money...mobile home parts dealer wants 400.00 for the same door we can buy at home depot for 150.00...
Home Depot Window Installation? Has anyone had good/bad comments about using Home Depot installation to do replacement windows? or Should I go with the local guy, and cheaper price?
vinyl Replacement Windows for Home? I live in CT and am looking for replacing old windows. Any recommendations of dealers /manufacturers based on quality & pricing will be helpful. Did got some information on Simonton through Home depot and Kengsington from one of the dealers. There is lot of price difference simonton 15K and kengsington 31K. Contract question - My replacement windows were installed 7 months late.? I had a contract with a home improvement company to put replacement windows in my house. The contract was dated June 1st 2007 and said they would deliver and install the windows within 2-4 weeks. They just showed up last week (7 1/2 months late) and installed the.... Do I still have to pay them? Some are still messed up and I've spent tons of time trying to get things straightened out with them. Can they sue me or put a lien on my house considering that they broke the contract? They broke the contract by committing to start the job AND be finished within 2-4 weeks and then gave one excuse after another and didn't show up again for almost 8 months. They also provided a bunch of broken materials and I have one window with a broken frame, and 2 where the glass is broken. They have replaced one of the broken glasses and not fixed the other stuff. I have about 60-70 hours of my own time invested in dealing with them by now. The company also had advertised "satisfaction guaranteed or your money back"... I don't think they satisfied the contract which is why I am wondering if I have to pay them...
Which replacement window style looks best for my house? I am having the windows in my home replaced. The options I have are all-vinyl (white, beige or brown) or aluminum on the outside, with a choice of paint-grade or stain-grade wood inside. The windows I am replacing are all wood-frame. I'd pretty much settled on the white vinly (easy to coordinate and less expensive) except that much of my interior decor, including the trim around the windows on the main level is stained OAK. I'm wondering if that would look cheesy - the white vinyl window next to the stained oak interior trim. Thoughts? Has anyone tried this or seen this at all? Thanks in advance!
Question about a replacement window? We're trying to replace the slider window in the bedroom. We went to home depot to buy a replacement one, and they didn't have the exact size, so we got one slightly smaller. Will this work? What modifications will be needed to make this work?? Thanks for your help. I will probably be asking question regarding this all day long. Here's to your patience and help!! Thanks alot!
If you were buying a victorian home- would your prefer old or new windows? Also the previous owner replaced 4 of the old windows with vinyl replacement and 3 of them have cracked because they weren't installed correctly. The estimated cost to replace all the windows is around $17,000. Would it really be worth it? The current windows are in good shape, though they could use some minor repairs to chains and need a few stops to be replaced. Is it worth the time and effort to fix repair/remove the paint, or not worth the hassle and buy new vinyl windows. My other issue is the way the vinyl windows will look on the exterior since they can't be painted, and the victorian trim. Efficiency isn't a problem with them. My heating and electric bills are actually quite cheap compared to some people, and my home with the 42 windows that it has is actually warmer in the winter months than a friends home that is a row and has new windows.
Can anyone explain what makes windows energy efficient? I have a new home (1 yr old) with "energy efficient" windows rated well by Energy Star. I am having the same problem with these windows that I had with replacement windows in my last house. The glass itself radiates a great deal of cold air. There is more cold air than I had with my regular windows with storm windows. There are no air leaks around the windows, so weatherstripping is not the answer. How can these new windows be considered more energy efficient? Do all the newer energy-efficient windows have this same problem? Can I use storm windows with these windows?
Has any one ever done business with a company called "Windows USA" who instals and sells Alaskan? Vinyl Windows. A man came to our house offering a check for $100 just to allow him to demonstrate the product. The sales man showed us the product and after estimating the cost of the project at $12,658 we decided we did not want it. So eventfully the estimate got down to $8,610 but we still didn't want to pay that much for replacement windows. Eventfully the sales man got on the phone with the company management the price was again reduced to $5195. For this we felt like we had a deal and with the sales man in our house for four hours we wanted him to leave. We knew replacement windows were a way to raise the equity in our home which seems like a good idea but now that we have signed a contract and had time to think things over, we are suspicious. There are numerous typos in the paper work and we can not seem to find the company on the internet at all which seems strange. I need to know if any one has done business with this company and if they were satisfied with the results.
Buying new windows? Are there any websites online that sell new construction or replacement windows for the home? Thanks.
