what are the most efficient replacement windows? i don't care about the cheapest. i want the best long term value, in decreasing energy costs and lasting a long time before needing replaced again. i've seen articles for vinyl and for fiberglass being the best. which is right?
Vinyl Replacement Windows - Upgrade over wood windows? So I have WOOD double hung windows now. They are not the greatest for usabilty since they don't tilt for cleaning and there is a storm window you have to open as well. If I replace them with a higher end white vinyl replacement window, will people looking to buy my house look at it as an upgrade? Not sure if they will they think, "oh look, cheap white vinyl windows doesn't go with the house" or "oh look, bright clean looking windows must be brand new." Putting in a combarable wood window is not even financially possible. I should have added that my home was built in 1995...so I don't know if they already think the existing windows are fine. 100% virgin vinyl won't yellow. I'm looking at upper end vinyl windows which are half the cost of a comp. wood window. You have to spend $1000-$1200 per window for wood windows. I guess if you have a half million dollar home it makes sense. I did more research on the yellowing, and that is an old scare tatic that came up 15 years ago for small start-up vinyl window companies that are no longer in business. Companies like Gorell and Soft-Lite do not have those issues....there'd be lawsuits all over the place. If you see yellow on a vinyl window its called nicotine. I should have added that my storms are wood and the windows have a poor sill design so alot of the storms have rotted or molded up. I've tried to strip them and repaint but the mold comes back due to the moisture...no weep holes!
windows replacement in phoenix? I am looking to get about 20+ windows replaced on my house. I really don't like the look and cheap feel of vinyl, so I was thinking of aluminum. Anyone know approximately what the labor costs will be on each window? Or anyone know any good companies in the phoenix area?
Rear glass window on my GMC Envoy blew up and shattered in my husbands hands!? My husband was opening the rear hatch window on our 2004 GMC Envoy and the window just shattered. It basically blew up if you can understand that. Pieces of the window went everywhere. Pieces were even found in my husbands pocket of his pants somehow!!! Does anyone know what may have caused this? I at first thought maybe it was the cold, but it is not that bad out here. It is cold but 13 degrees or maybe a little less, but no below zeros or anything. Does anyone know where I can find replacement window online for cheap? I have searched but haven't come up with many options. Any help would be great!

Can I transfer an OS from one HD to another? I have a broken hard drive and I was planning on replacing it, but then I wouldn't have windows. Is it possible to copy windows from another hard drive that has it pre-installed onto the replacement hard drive? Basically, I want to use a copy of windows on one computer as recovery disks for another. When I asked microsoft this they said it would violate the terms but, didn't mention if there was something that would actually stop me, is there?, and I paid for both copies so I wouldn't be violating anything Is there any other alternatives to buying recovery disks, can I download the information and make my own CD's. It will be cheaper to buy a new HD and recovery disk than to buy another computer so no comments like that are necessary.
Pentium II HTPC? My TV is about to die (power supply is faulting); so I need to find a replacement. I thought now would be an excellent time to replace with a HTPC. Since I have a good CRT that can display full 1080p video, I do not need to invest in a television. I have this Dell Dimension XPS R450, with the following specs: Intel Pentium II 450MHZ 385MB SD 100 RAM 20GB HD (can install bigger then 137gb, however) 32MB ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon 7200 AGP Windows XP Pro This system is quiet, and from previous testing, I can play DVDs on it. I also have another system, which is loud (probably the PSU, which is a cheap one); no ability to have wireless internet ( meaning no podcasts ), because there is only one open PCI slot, so I can install a TV tuner. Here are the specs: AMD Duron 900MHZ 512MB RAM 20GB HD (same from Dell) Windows XP Pro Radeon 9250 256MB PCI I have another system, an emachines system, but that system is slower then my pII (and it's a p3). I want to be able to play DVDs; watch television (possibly HD); playback podcasts (HD or SD); listen to music; surf the web; and playback quicktime files. I also am wondering whether I should go with MythTV (Linux, maybe KnoppMyth or Ubuntu) or just use Windows XP Pro (or should I get MCE 2005)? Btw, my main system, my Mac Mini is out of the question. My room is too small for my office setup, and my wireless internet is flakey. I am trying to avoid spending more money, if possible.

I lost my cd for my Sony Clie J35. What to do? I lost the installation disk for my Sony Clie J35, and now I want to use it with my new windows laptop at work. Where can I find either a replacement disk for cheap, or download the applications needed?
Replacing Motherboard means I need to reformat or Re-install OS? I am replacing a dead motherboard and because the machine is SO OLD, it was impossible to find a direct replacement. this is going into a pre-built machine, so it has the OEM version of XP. I was hoping this to be a cheap repair as the computer is old enough, but good enough for my daughter (she doesn't need a $500 computer to learn typing and shapes/colors/letters/words). I only have 1 hard drive for the machine and no other available IDE (or ATA) hard drives around that I could reinstall on. I don't know where all her disks are for her games and don't feel like hunting them down, plus she has files saved on the computer, so I don't want to reformat. Can I clone the hard drive (or backup copy the hard drive) to my main computer's backup drive (a 1TB external) and then reinstall or repair the windows OS, and then restore image, or would the restore image just mess up the OS reinstall? It's funny, someone intelligent, or someone who thinks they are computer savvy are giving you all thumbs down... I'm sorry, but if I am getting a handful of answers that it WILL work, I'm going to have to go with the majority. will choose best answer when they become available. Thank you all for the responses thus far. ANYONE ELSE?
Why does my LCD screen gets static when starting up? Hello, lately my Dell 2007FWP Ultrasharp LCD displays this weird static at startup and gradually fades off the longer it's been on. It's most prominent when the screen is displaying high contrast objects (like white bios text on black background or a white window on a darker desktop background). The static looks like a pinkish noise that shows up in randomized horizontal lines. No, I'm not a noob. I haven't changed the setttings in a long time, graphics drivers are up to date, cable is firmly seated, screen is displaying at native resolution and refresh rate. As I'm typing this the static is gone, but parts of the screen looks clear wheras some parts appear to be a little fuzzy, almost like it's out of focus - If I were to guess I'd say it's like the monitor has trouble pulling crystals into alignment. I've been using this monitor for only 2 years, and it didn't come cheap. Should I be looking for a replacement now?
is my Ipod Shuffle (gen 2) usb cable broken? I think so...my laptop won't recognize it at all (windows or itunes) and the plug looks a little bent...a replacement costs 30$... do you know of a cheaper way to fix/replace it?
Where do I buy a replacement glass for my Tahoe window? I have a 1999 Tahoe. My father-in-law decided to mow our grass the other day and his lawn mower flung a rock through the back glass of my Tahoe, shattering it completely. It is the passenger side behind the driver's seat. Where can I find a cheap replacement for it so that I don't have to turn it in to my insurance? And also, is this something that we can do or do I have to have it installed professionally? Thanks for your help.
My 1995 Nissan 240sx's door wont lock PLZ help? I just bought a 1995 Nissan 240sx automatic. There are a couple things wrong with the car but nothin too big. I just got the window to go up and down yesterday [motor was dead]. Yesterday when i got home i "locked" my door but i was able to open it afterwards. I tried to locking it from the inside and then closing the door and it still wouldnt stay locked. I also tried closing the door and then locking it but it wouldnt work. Can i fix it? Do i have to a buy a part? What do i do? *The window button is out of control also; the guy that repaired my window said that the button was forcing the motor too much and eventually the motor coudlnt take it and broke. Is there a way to fix the button? Any sites where i can buy a cheap replacement?* **Driver side** All answers will be appreciated. Thnx in advance
What is the easiest method to repair/replace window in a house door? I locked myself out of my apartment one day and the doors were locked with my keys inside and me outside, so the only option I had was to break the double paned glass window in the center of my back door. I now need to fix it badly, there is a lot of cold air coming in, & I've read that DIY replacement of windows is the cheapest way (versus hiring someone to fix it). I have no clue where to start, and have never done this before so I was looking for some guidance in getting started on the repair. The door is a metal door with an approximate 3' x 2' window in the center- the window runs from the door knob to near the top of the door and centered across this length. There are wood trimmings along the edges of the window hole that are nailed in somewhere? What would be: - the most cost-efficient way to repair/replace this type of door/window, what all would I need (supply wise), and how do I get started/completing this? Or: Would it be cheaper to find another steel door (possibly through an auction or discount supply) similar/same to the one I have now, and just using that to replace the whole door? Also, any help on locations (on the web) or locally that I can go to find the supplies that I am looking for- (ae: the particular window that I will need, or a used/new door that is similar or the same as mine). I live outside of Pittsburgh, Pa. Any help would be appreciated.
repairing UPVC? Several of our 4 year old UPVC windows and doors have been badly mangled by a builder's cretinous lad's unskilled use of a grinder when removing mortar for repointing of the house. Fuming as I am and having requested replacement of the damaged parts, I am not looking forward to the further mess. Builder has sent round Window Doctor to 'have a look' after agreeing replacement of the parts, which has annoyed me even more! BUT does anyone have any experience of hot wax fill repairs of UPVC? Is it as dodgy and a botch up as I suspect it will be? Or is it an easy (if cheaper) solution to the problem?
How do I get a windows replacement disc? I know it seems like a stupid question. But my problem requires a work around. I bought an OEM copy of Vista and after one install the disk is all cracked up and chipped beyond use. Apparently MS uses cheap garbage disks. Plus windows disks always seem to to cycle at a much higher RPM than others so there is no way it could handle that stress since it's already a weak piece of garbage. I've only had three optical disks break in my lifetime. Two copies of XP and my recent Vista 64. A power surge fried my my main IDE and wiped my drive so I need to re-format, but I can't because the disk is too brittle to withstand the first installation. It's almost as if MS deceptively engineers the disks to break. I tried the vendor but sending me a $1 piece of plastic isn't viable and MS seems to be run by investors that don't really wish to do anything except run MS into the ground. They don't care about the quality of their OS nor their commercial consumers. I THOUGHT I was paying for what's on the disk. NOT the disk. Anyone here have any ideas or know what I can to get it replaced. Even though I registered it with MS they won't support it. Finally got a hold of MS but that keep shuffling me around. They want $30 dollars for a replacement disk. It says don't make illegal copies on the disk and at first I respected that, but you give what you get. So I'm gonna disregard that and make 6,000 copies. If a couple thousand of them happen to disappear... it's not problem. Things get lost/stolen.

I was backing up late tonight and someone left something sticking out of a dumpster in our alley way, it was at just the level i couldn't see it and next thing i know my rear window is in a million pieces...i don't have a lot of money to get it fixed and i was quoted online between 270-350 dollars to have it pro. replaced. I live outside of Pittsburgh, Pa. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks 4 the answers-looking into them :) But I need to clarify that I am a DIY-er, handy woman of sorts & it happens that I have a ton of tools. What I meant was- Out of all the repair options: ex. Using a putty knife 2remove old putty/caulking, remove broken glass, buying putty/caulking, glass/window & paint to repaint the wood trim 2match the door--Which method is cheapest- puttying or some other method? I have read up on repair/replacing windows & the steps listed under most of those r specific to regular household windows-Not a window inserted in a steel door. That's y I came here for help. I pretty much understand the repair- just trying 2find the most cost-effective method of doing this & the best way 2fix it bcuz I rent & I need 2get it fixed b4 the landlord notices & charges me some ridiculous amt to have her handyman repair it.Bsides the major cost diff, another reason I would like 2repair it myself is the landlords office is diagonal from me & handyman will draw attention 2 it
What would be the best hard drive replacement on my Dell? My hard drive on my Dell Inspiron E1505 that I purchased two years ago now needs a new hard drive and the warranty is done for so they won't help. (I'm planning on saving for a new laptop period, but for now fixing mine is cheaper.) The one I am running is Samsung HM120JI ATA Device. It is 100GB. I am curious as to how much GB I can upgrade it to [that wouldn't need other upgrades] and what would be a good one (brands, etc.)? I looked on TigerDirect and found a bunch of different ones. I am hoping for a price range of less than a $100 and something that I can use a lot since my laptop is usually running and on for my business. I've recently read that laptops run hot and that shortens their life so is there a brand that has hard drives that run cooler than most? I have no problems with replacing the drive, I've had to do that on a computer my mom bought that the hard drive didn't function, but as for the particulars when buying, that's a bit confusing to me so any help would be greatly appreciated. I run Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit). Processor: Intel Core Duo CPU T2350@1.86 GHz. Memory (RAM) 100GB. Dell has a 120 GB 5400RPM Serial ATA Internal HD for $90, but I'd prefer something better and cheaper. I did find this one "Western Digital Caviar SE 320GB Hard Drive - 7200, 8MB, SATA-300, OEM" but since it's OEM they say it would need parts (cables, screws), so would I have to buy new ones? Or would the existing work? OKay, I can only upgrade the memory (RAM) to 2 GB max, so the other question, what is the highest GB I can upgrade hard drive too? Is there a limit? What drive brands run cooler and quieter?
Looking for a free alternative to Deskcalc? I have tried and really love Deskcalc (http://www.deskcalc.com/) And I really enjoy it, but the free time period is over, and I'm cheap! I've looked all over for a replacement online but haven't found anything really good besides it. Anyone know of a Windows (freeware hopefully) App that could take it's place? Basically, Just looking for an *Adding machine* App that can add tax, show each entry as if it's a printed reciept, etc..
Does anyone know if skylights are a part of the roof or are they considered windows? The management company that manages our condo wants to replace the roof on the four units where I live. The said many different reasons why they want to change the skylights two of them are 1. flashing not available in right size 2. contractor won't insure roof. My husband talked to the contractor and they said they gave prices on doing the roof with and without replacement of the skylights and they would rather not replace them. The skylights were put in by the builder in 1988. I am wondering if skylights are considered windows or are they a part of the roof. My management company is telling me that the skylights are considered windows and I am responsible for them. In the by laws, nothing is mentioned about the skylights and the roofs are supposed to be replaced free with our monthly fee of $350. The by laws do say that the windows are my responsibility and honestly I would rather replace the windows then the skylights. Another owner of a condo where I live had her skylight replaced and it leaked afterwards which makes me worry. The management company has done things wrong many times but I am told they are like God or the President and I have no say. I can't believe I own a condo and I have to get my great quality skylights replaced by probably a contractor who doesn't even insure the breakage of anything in my condo. . We have really good skylights manufactured by a company that is called the Pella of the Midwest. I have tried my best to advise the mgm. co. and the board of directors that I do not want new skylights as the ones we have are just fine. I just received a letter telling me that the contractor wants to enter our condos and put down tarp for up to 7 days while they are replace the skylights and the roof. I am terribly worried that they are putting cheap skylights in place of the ones we have. It seems like our mgm. co. tends to do things that are not needed and skip over what is needed. If anyone has any advise or can help me in anyway, please contact me. The mgm. co. wants me to pay $450 per skylight and I have 7 of them.. In the by laws it says I am responsible for the windows and the management company wants to call the skylights windows but I do not agree and if anyone knows, please advise. If anyone knows anything about this or anything that would help me deal with the mgm. company, please advise. The Pres. of our Board won't take phone calls and I am homebound right now. I would be greatly appreciative of an answer. Thank you.
I have leaking Pella skylights any help? These skylight are not cheap, they are 18 years old and we have had a roofer come in and reflash and redo roofing 2 squares around the window, sealed , reflashed everything, and they still leak, from where we do not know.......Pella says for windows that old they may /may not have replacement parts, we are going to get the roof redone anyway......whats the best way to proceed/ ripout and have to redo the interior or replace
Saturn Side Mirror Replacement? So my girlfriend was pulling out of the garage and nicked her passenger side mirror on the opening of the garage door. Its broken enough to the point where she would like a new one. I have done a little research and and found some for really cheap. (only 40 bucks) TO me this seems a little too cheap. Is that about right for a plastic side mirror for a 02 Saturn SL? Also she has manual side windows, would there be problems installing an automatic one instead of a manual? Part # is 21170588 if needed. Thanks guys
What can I expect to pay for 3 replacement windows in our home? I know the variables are great, but I'm interested in "standard-size", double-hung? (slides up & down), tilt-in (for easy clean), double-paned (energy efficient for tax-credit), vinyl-framed(?) windows. I was quoted $2,300 for 3 window replacements yesterday, and was just astounded they are basically $767 apiece! - They would have a lifetime warranty (transferable), but...Dang! We're down to one income now and need a cheaper (but reliable) alternative. Or, is that considered "average" pricing? I'd consider other in-home estimates, but after making the salesman angry because I wouldn't commit to a sale last eve, I'm hesitant to waste anyone else's time if I don't want to agree to their pricing. :( I should add, this a 50+ yr. old home & windows. Most of them are "tall" and would probably have to be custom-fit, but installation may not be as big an issue as first thought to be...My spouse does maintenance work for a living; he's just never replaced Ws. - So, I then wonder if it's better to be done by a professional for the benefit of customer service/satisfaction if a problem arise. (ie: "insurance" asides from the W itself.) It seems there are some great deals out there with Buy 1, Get 1 Free, etc. - I'll just keeping checking around, and stop inviting strangers into my home to see how much money they can get out of us! ;)
i broke a window? i broke a window i want to replace it its 11 and a half its height and 6 and a half width where can i buy a replacement one for a cheap price where i can pay for it with paypal and they ship it to me thanks

Where can I get a rear window for a fiat punto 16v convertible? I recently bought a fiat punto convertible and whilst showing a friend how the hood went down the rear plastic window split a bit. I quote a quote from fiat and they said it would be £380 to get a replacement. This seems slightly ridiculous as it looks like it should just zip in and out. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix it or where I could get a cheaper replacement from. Cheers
car window replacement? how much will it cost (estimate) and where is cheapest to get front and back windscreens replaced
Home Depot Window Installation? Has anyone had good/bad comments about using Home Depot installation to do replacement windows? or Should I go with the local guy, and cheaper price?
Whats a good replacement for Windows Movie Maker? Hello, I make videos and I publish them to Youtube. I use Windows Movie Maker (WMM) for this, So far it gets the job done, but I want to have cool opening scene effects like a logo or something that is an animation rather then a plain picture that says my brand, Im just looking for a new movie making software that isnt some 800$ software like Adobe Premiere. I want an Imac for christmas becasue Macs are good with video editing and they have Imovie. If you have any good software that is free or realitively cheap, let me know.
Cost to reglaze/restore windows? We have several single-hung windows with multiple panes (mostly six over six) - wood trim and sash in aluminum frame. The glazing is essentially toast- peeling and cracking and for the most part missing thanks to many years of inhabitants neglecting to use storms or repaint. Some of the reglazing I can probably do myself, but several windows I've not been able to remove and others are above ground level. Has anyone even the roughest idea what a reglazing project (possibly repainting, the odd pane replacement or even complete pane replacement, other a la carte items) cost range is these days? Might it still be cheaper to have a glazier remove, reglaze and remount these windows than to replace them with the basic energystar vinyl windows and have done with it? Eventually we'll be able to have a glazier out for an estimate, but it would be good to have a very rough idea before starting to figure out priorities on projects! Thanks.
How to replace a rear quarter car window? My husband locked his keys in the car at his job-site, so he had to break a window to get them, as it would have been too far for me to drive so late with both kids. (It's the driver's side, rear quarter window on a 2004 Malibu Classic) Is it really worth taking to the dealership to get this replaced? Considering the window is stationary, it looks like you just need to take the interior of the door off and slide it up in there. I know we could find a replacement window at a junkyard, or even off ebay, that would be way cheaper, and we wouldn't have to pay for labor.
2000 Series Chevy Impala, 4 Door- Window Replacement? 2000 Series Chevy Impala, 4 Door, Front Driver Side (Left) Window. Where to go get quotes for replacement? Searching for the cheapest place! That is, the cheapest place including labour and etcetera. I live in North York, On Any place near or around (surrounding areas) Toronto, On
Is it better to get a replacement window (with frame) or just replace the glass? I have a double pane window that is many years old and very cheap (came with the house, maybe 1/32" panes). I want to change the windows because the noise from outside and nearby train is very easy to hear. The two options I have are: full replacement of the window with new vinyl frames to a double pane window (1/8", 1/8"+laminate+1/32") or just replace the double pane with something better (1/8", 1/8"+laminate+1/32"). The price difference is that the second option is about 25% less than getting it with brand new frames. Also the first option is with LowE3 and a super-spacer. The second option uses LowE2 and aluminum spacer. I am concerned that getting the second option, with just new windows and using my existing frames and panes (which are in decent condition) will not be sealed properly as the complete replacement. Any recommendations?
Replacement Window for a Plymouth Voyager? Hi: I have a Voyager with a broken rear side window ( the kind that pops out). I'm really kinda broke, and have almost no mechanical skills. I have called around, and they are charging more than I can afford to fix this, even with a used window. But I recall seeing some cars that have replaced their window with a kind of hard plastic flattened bubble. It's obviously a manufactured item, and not something they just threw together themselves. In fact, I think it had advertising on it. Anyway, I would love to know where to buy one of these. So does anybody know where I can get one? You have any other cheap suggestions for the hopelessly unskilled?
